My daughter is getting married next week. Traditionally, the wedding cake ribbon charms are pulled by unmarried ladies. Most of her family and friends who are unmarried are engaged and so she asked me what I thought. I said I did not know.

I hope this will help...I read about this tradition and thought that it would be a lot of fun but that I wanted to change things around and make it more my own. So what I'm doing is the day before my wedding I'm hosting a little get together before the wedding rehearsal with all my girls and my mom and future mom (all the boys are going golfing) and I have a mixture of girls that are married, engaged, and two that are under age but I really wanted to do this. So what I'm doing is instead of making a cake I'm going to make individual cup cakes and I'm going to make sure the underage girls get something that is appropriate for them and that my married ladies don't get the ring. No one will know that I fixed it just a tad...I will pass them out that way I know where the "special" ones need to go. I thought this way the girls can do it all together and have a little fun :)

The updated version of the tradition is for the bridesmaids and matron or maid of honor to pull the charms. If a matron of honor gets the engagement ring (as I did at my sister's wedding) we joked and said my husband was going to buy me some jewelry! And guess what... he did!! (And he wasn't even there!) :-) Have fun, and congratulations!
