Original sin refers to the sin all humans have that was carried over from the fall of mankind when Adam and Eve eat the forbidden fruit from the tree.

Using a serpent, the spirit creature Satan the Devil deceived Eve into disobeying Jehovah, and Adam followed her. This was the original sin.—Genesis 3:1-6.
Adam & Eve were perfect. The beautiful garden of Eden was their home. God gave them the meaningful work of caring for their garden home. They were to take care of the living creatures on earth. And as humans multiplied and filled the earth with millions of their kind, they were to expand the paradise to earth's limits. (Genesis 1:28) They lacked nothing. Happy eternal life was before them. But they chose disobedience.

God had already spelled out the consequence of disobedience, stating: "From every tree of the garden you may eat to satisfaction. But as for the tree of the knowledge of good and bad you must not eat from it, for in the day you eat from it you will positively die." (Genesis 2:16, 17)

Since Adam and Eve had no children, when Adam sinned and began to die, as God said he would, all mankind was sentenced to death along with him.(Romans 5:12)

it started when eve ate the apple and adam joined her. from then on ALL humans born from them are born with sin. so the fable goes.

when i look at a newborn baby, i see NOTHING sinful about it. original sin makes the bible tarnished, because MAN writes the word of god, and if all mankind is born with original sin, then one could say that ANY person writing the 'word of god' is a sinner and taints it. so my conclusion is that the bible may have some meaningful teachings in it, but definitely not to be taken literally, and with a lot of grains of salt.

The sin of trying to be God and invent one's own morality (Lucifer's sin).

According to the Apostle Paul, we are all born with an evil, or selfish, side due to the fact that our original parents (Adam & Eve) rebelled againist God. We have all somehow inherented their selfish nature, and we need to be purged of it by God the Holy Spirit (Read Pauls' letter the the "Romans", for example).

With due respect to the guy above, how can you look at a newborn baby and not realize that humans are inherently selfish from birth? We have to be taught to share, care, and to love. Goodness does NOT come naturally.

It is hereditary sin or birth sin. That's why we are baptized to remove the sin of Adam and Eve.
