I have 3 boys ages 13, 7 and 4. Now that it is summer we have faced this same problem. I have found that I just physically wear them out! We go swimming every day. We take advantage of the all the cheap or free stuff offered around town. The library has a show every friday we go to, the theater has a kids dollar movie a couple times a week. The zoo is not real expensive and if the kids run around ppl don't look at you "bad", I will feed them lunch at home then take them to MacDonalds or DQ buy them an ice cream and let them play on the play ground (I bring a book and let them stay as long as they want). At home they have their legos, crayons, dinosaurs and Imaginex toys. We also try to meet with friends to do alot of the things I mentioned above.

There are in fact 'lots' of things you can do to amuse your 6-year old child. Right at your own home, you can do various crafts that involve household items such as eggshells for eggshell painting (making use of crushed eggshells glued onto drawn pictures and paint over them with poster or watercolor); robot toys made from milk cartons and eggtrays; scrapbooking for kids; collage-making (using old magazines and direct mailers);

Other activities you can do are the following- chalk drawing (on the sidewalks or paved areas); bubble blowing (these are really cheap when you buy it or you can make your own, too.);

Or if you opt to send your child somewhere and you are willing to pay a certain amount, you can bring your kid to a swimming class or even to a day-camp this summer.

Well, hope you'll be able to figure out what you want to do. I am pretty sure that you'll be able to draw lots of good ideas from this Q&A.

There is a simple solution- spend time together. This may include making something or planning something such a picnic or game. Giving them a small amount of responsibility such as cleaning the paint pots after doing pictures or getting them to choose sandwich fillings is educational ans well as making them feel adult.
You could also try something new together. A new activity is a good joint learning experience and broadens their skills. Something such as pottery on a wheel is fun, messy, usually funny and you can get something to take home. Some of my happiest memories include being taught to knit when I was 4 and making cakes which I decorated with my favourite sweets.

Take him for walks in the neighborhood, playgounds, form a group in your area with other moms, and do projects, backyards habitats and little pool swimming, finger paints etc, and of course if you go to church ,there youn will find other moms for your playgroup. good luck.

you could be lucky like us, and have a water park near by, and it only costs $2 per person, and $3 to park your car!!!
