Many things, though since you don't seem to have had it again, I"ll suggest a few that don't need medical treatment.

There could have been a bug in your ear. An insect, not an electronic device. As it thrashed around, it could have touched your ear drum in rhythm.

Earwax buildup can cause situations that press on your eardrum in a pattern.

Being stuffed up can make the Eustachian tube close so that the pressure behind your eardrum doesn't equalize, and then you can hear your heartbeat or the muscle contractions in your jaw.

If it occurred in a certain place, you might have been getting conduction from some other source.

The backup beeps from a truck can be ellusive and seem to come from inside one's head, however, since it was just your left ear, it is more likely something inside your head, not outside. Unless your right ear is deaf in the frequency that your left hear was hearing.

If you were swimming or showering just before it started, you could have water in your ear. Sometimes it can trap a bubble, and then won't leave, but the bubble makes a sound.

These are a few of the simple things it might be, but if it continues, it might be worth seeing a doctor about. There are things that can go wrong with the bones in the ear, with the nerves, and the like, that might need treatment, so don't let it go on for weeks without seeking help.

On the other hand, if it has stopped, take it as amusing, and tell all your friends the aliens tried to contact you, but you couldn't decode the message.

Go get checked out...beeping sounds is not a good sign...you could be slowing damaging your hearing by letting that linger on
