I'm glad you asked. Giving yourself to Jesus or God is really not that difficult at all. It's about seeking a relationship with Him. For years and years I worried whether I prayed hard enough or was good enough for God. Guess what? You are good enough for God. He loves you just as He loves everyone else.
When you give yourself to God, you make the choice to let God be in charge of your life. At the beginning of your day or as you think about it, ask God how He wants you to conduct your life. The principles that we are guided by are the Fruits of the Spirit, which are Love, Joy, Peace, Gentleness, Goodness, Faith, Humility, and Self-Control. Your actions and your words should follow those qualities.
Giving yourself to God means that you will have a heavenly father that will guide you. You're not doing it wrong, it's just that you don't feel like your doing it right. And that's okay, because if you really want to do it right, our God knows your heart and he knows you are trying to seek Him and that's okay with God.
Questioning is a way to learn more.
If you have asked Jesus to come into your life as your Lord and Savior, and confessed your sins to Him and made the decision that you will put him in control of your life, then you have done it "the correct way".
I strongly recommend that you get into reading the Bible and praying (talking with God) every day. You can do it for as much or as little of time as you have available. Since you like the internet, a good way to study what God wants you to do is to look up www.Biblegateway.org It's an online Bible with a lot of different versions. As you think about something you want to know, you can look up some key scriptures by using keywords. I often put a keyword in and then look at the different versions to make sure I better understand the meaning behind what is being said. A great version is either the New international veresion or The Message Bible.
Don't worry about whether you are doing it right or not. You are, and God knows you are. As you begin to read and pray more, you will become more confident that you are doing it right. But I find that learning the Bible helps me tremendously in my walk with God.
When I study the Bible, I pray before reading and ask God what He wants to teach me, then I look up the keywords in Biblegateway and start reading the applicable scriptures (but select the larger groups of versions / to read in context).

There is no correct way or prayer that will get you saved. All you have to do is believe in Jesus, and then live the life that he has commanded you to. In believing in Jesus and what he did for us, you will want to serve and worship Him in everything that you do. Don't think that you have to FEEL something right off the bat. God is always working in ways we can't see. Continue to search after what He wants from you and I guarantee you will know Him.

i don't believe there is a right or wrong way to ask God to come into your life and help you. i think the only thing is you must be sincere in wanting him and you must believe on him fully. if you are confused and need more help i would suggest visiting a local church or calling to see if you can meet with a pastor or other couselor person that could help you more.

astrosartgirl7,
Don't rely on feelings. That's number one.
Number two; you've made the choice to respond to Him. Your heart has already made that connection- the willingness to trust Him.
Here's something that I've compiled for what you are asking.

If it makes you feel better, the Sinner's Prayer is what I used in one form or another when I decided to let God have my life.
E-Mail me at kingreef777@cox.net to let me know how you did and any other questions.
