This was in her name even before her marriage and we were told that its hers before marriage now they change their stance that too after 10 years of our marriage..i feel they should understand that we have some aspirations and dreams in that property..legally anyhow they are foolish to think they can give...but morallly how could they be so nasty and rude..even if we ask them about they feel as if we are doing soemthing wrong..!

I would check the title of the property. If it is truley in her name, there is nothing the parents can do with it.

If it is in the PARENT's name, then what ever they want to do is their right as owners of the property. Morally, or ethically, it's not nice, but as for legal, they have the right to dispose of the property however they see fit.

If it's in her name, does she hold the deed? They can't do a thing without her signature. I really feel that if they do this, I agree with you - it's just wrong. You don't give someone something like this, let them dream, plan, and strive to make something of it, and then just take it away. But, then again, do you want to get into a battle with your in-laws? Let your wife do any question asking and see what their answer is. Then, if the land is given to another sister, I know if it were my parents, that would be the last they heard from me. Hopefully, your lady with have the fortitude to stand up t them should this take place.

If it's in her name they cannot sell it or change the name, you must go to court and pay money to do that. Contact a legal aid or ACLU lawyer to protect your rights.
