Actually, there really aren't that many Atheists... only around 13% of the population, in the USA. In some European countries, the percentage is much higher.

But the main reason that people become Atheists is that they learn how to think. Religion cannot withstand the glaring light of reason, logic and critical thought. The Wholly Babble is a part of that, though, since that is where a lot of reason gets applied.

Here's a interesting note... religion statistics for the USA show that the attitudes toward religion in the USA are more concictent with backward third world developing countries than they are with other modern industrialized nations.

This is really an indictment of our educational system, than anything else. Our education system is designed to create employees... not rational critical thinkers. Except for those who are lucky enough to attend some rather exceptional schools, anybody that comes out of high school with critical thinking skills has done so IN SPITE OF our educational system... not because of it.

So, by far, there are too few Atheists... although I prefer the term Rationalist, or Free Thinker. Until that is remedied, the majority of our population will continue to wallow in the myths, superstition, and fantastical magical delusions of a small bunch of Bronze Age goat herders.

The Bible itself isn't the reason we have so many atheists - the reason is the organised religions that have taken over the basic message of the Bible and turned it into Big Business.

I don't need someone to tell me how to read the Bible and understand the messages it tells me - and I certainly don't need to sit in a church to do it, much less contribute to the collection at the end of the sermon.

Give the Bible back to the people and drive the preachers and money-men out of the churches

Yes and no.

See most people don't read the Bible, so they don't find the "fiction there" Another Athiest points it out. They look it up, then they ask around about it without getting a decent answer. This causes them to question religion. Apon doing so they become Athiest.

Another reason for this is mixed messages that religions push.
example God loves you more then anybody else could love you, but if you are bad God will send you to eternal damnation. Now I know for a fact no matter how evil I was none of my friends would do something like that. So does my friends love me more then God, no I confused.

the bible is not the reason for this , most likely it is the way christians or so called christians react to others that causes some to say well if this is the way christians act i want no part of it , in fact many people pretend to be a christian and even believe they are christians , not realizing they carry the devil in them ,
what could be wrong with love your neighbor as tour self and
forgive , care , share , things get all twisted up some times
education is an answer, perhaps the only answer for you
does rebel without a clue mean any thing to you,
life is sometimes what you make it, explore

I think that the answer is in the Bible. Also, quite interestingly, the answer is in the Apocrypha. If you've read 2 Edras:
2 Esdras 8:1 And he answered me, saying, The most High hath made this world for many, but the world to come for few.
2 I will tell thee a similitude, Esdras; As when thou askest the earth, it shall say unto thee, that it giveth much mould whereof earthen vessels are made, but little dust that gold cometh of: even so is the course of this present world.
3 There be many created, but few shall be saved.
and in the New Testament:
John 15:19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

It's scripturally accurate to recognize that those that are not Christian- especially those that consider themselves strong Atheists- to think that Christians make themselves righteous, and must think of themselves as special. Part of this is the errant Christians fault, those that preach against sinners as if they were not themselves sinners- losing all manner of humilty in the process; they cheapen the word of God and ignore the message of the Gospel, in that; Christ died for our sins. Believe and turn to Him.

But also consider this:
John 6:44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

That the Father does the drawing.

It's by His will that He picks those that are chosen.

That's when you know that you are; to make a word up, "Miraclized. " That is, that you were spiritually drawn to Him, in the midst of a hateful world that doesn't understand the phrases that you can- even though you are both looking at the same piece of scripture, the daily practiced miracle of understanding scripture.

A miracle in itself, in the face of the hateful and unbelieving world.

The reason we have so many atheist is because they want to rebel not so much against the bible but what their family thinks and with a family pushing the bible at you and you want to rebel then it turns into something way more which is being an atheist

The reason I believe we have so many atheists today is because Christians don't live what they believe. They just parrot what someone else said. In other words, the atheists don't see the authenticity of what they're pointing to.

No, God is the reason we have so many Atheists.

I believe there may have been a man named Jesus. I believe some guy my have put animals on a boat during a flood. Some dude may have led people through an inlet at low tide....

Theses are all believable (historical?) legends.

But the whole God thing..... C'mon people, get real.

No, but it's right up there. Secular education and an overall knowledge of science in the general population are probably bigger factors. The loopy stuff in The Bible just reaffirms how crazy the religion is.

No. I believe we have so many atheist today because they have chosen to refuse the only logical means by which earth, mankind, and our spiritual satisfaction can truly be fulfilled and that is through Jesus Christ. I believe materialism is what has led to our atheistic society more than anything else.
