Many people give thanks to God for what He's done but to worship in spirit and truth means to worship Him for who He is. Jesus made this statement to the woman at the well after she asked about the "proper place of worship" since this was an ongoing argument between the Samaritans and the Jews. Jesus was trying to tell her that it doesn't matter where you are when you worship God because if you truly understand that God is a spirit, you know that He is not limited to being on a particular mountain...He's everywhere!!

One way of interpreting that passage is to consider what it means to be born again by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit gives life to our spirits and He teaches us all things and He knows the deep things of God.
So when we worship God in truth, we worship Him as He truly is and not according to some man made construct that we have been taught. We worship Him with spirits that have come alive by the regeneration of his Holy Spirit.
We don't worship Him by performing mechanical rituals thinking that by going through the motions we are pleasing a distant "god" who only cares about the external things that people can see and not about what is really going on in our hearts and minds.

When God created the men, God browed thro the men a little from His Spirit and the men came to live.
I think this Spirit in mens is the good part of the mens carracter ,if we have time for God , to worship He (because drive us if we whant that), we have got very much informations from this Spirit.
God is also the Truth,if i whant to worship Him,means that i love the truth. But we are mens whith free choice and we can easy be in wrong,in this case we must ask the God for forget us and after that we can worship Him in truth.

two people go into church.
one says, God I love you with all my heart. Bless me so that I may help others.
The other one says, God I love you with all my heart. Bless me so that I may help others.
As humans we hear both and we'll believe both...or not believe both.
God knows that only one of these men's hearts are right with Him. One really has a hunger to serve others, while the other one has a hunger to be accepted acclaimed and blessed. Same prayer, but with different intentions
Remember that the Pharisees never broke God's rules, but they never really loved like God loved. (which unfortunately is still true for many Christians too.)
to worship God in spirit is to worship Him beyond the desires of earth and your body. Like you would worship if there was no personal needs to satisfy. This is really difficult, because we are still in our bodies and don't understand the way we would if we had nothing earthly to loose.
simply said. It's like being in love. You don't care about anything else. you don't care about food..people who think you stupid...what you have to do that day...you just want to keep loving!

To worship Him in the spirit, in Heaven. When you die in the flesh, you go to Heaven to be judge. So, you worship Him in Heaven also. In the truth means you will have full knowledge of God and the truth of God's word. All this in Heaven not on earth.

Don't just go to church on Sunday for an hour.
Talk to him throughout the day. The Bible says to pray without ceasing. Try and maintain a mindset of conversation with the Father as you go about your business. Ask that He be glorified through you, your life, your actions. Ask that His will be done in your life. Thank Him for friends and family. Pray for others. There are email and web-based prayer chains extending around the world. Draw near to Him and He will draw near to you. This close loving relationship will change your life. Romans 8:28 says all things work to the good of those that love God and are called according to His purpose. I'm proof.

there's one that slipped by the bible editors, I think to worship God in spirit is to have reverence for a God but realize that any living human cannot possibly know what God thinks, so to be truthful you should follow your heart not a religion

Humans are eternal timeless souls in human body , while God is the supreme soul . He is the father of all creatures [ human beingss included ].
He never said he needed to be worshipped but the religious texts [ so all religions say he told me to tell you so that they can have power over ordinary humans for financial gain ] have made one thing very clear that being good and being merciful and compassionate towards creatures [humans including ] all is always held by him in high esteem , and the desire for every human is to be known and seen as GOOD [ divine entity ] , than anything else .
He himself has never said anything as he is SUPREME SOULD and he does not have a body , but is met and known only through the power of Powerful and silent contemplation [ meditation including ]

I heard an excellent sermon on this 2 weeks ago.
To worship in Spirit means that you are worshipping God from your spirit, from your heart, from inside your soul. That means that you are not worshipping God by just opening your mouth and mouthing some words or reciting some formulaic prayer, or just showing up on a Sunday at church... worshipping in Spirit means that deep in your heart you are in awe of God, willing to give your heart and your life to him. That you are deeply, personally convinced of his glory and grace and that you are overcome with love and adoration for him.
To worship in truth means that not only are you deeply connected with him as I said above, but that you are truly seeking to know him for who he really is as he has revealed himself to us. And that you are also seeking to line up your life with his higher calling. That means that you are studying the bible and praying and asking other Christians about what it means to really love and serve God. That you are not willing to let sin go in your life, but you want to get all parts of your life to be pleasing to God and that you will lean on Jesus for the strength to overcome!
