It's kind of hard to pick the exact passage you are talking about. Maybe it's one of these.
James 3:13 Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom. 14 But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. 15 This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. 16 For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. 17 But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. 18 And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
Romans 7:19 For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing. 20 Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me.

References to what is evil is peppered throughout the bible.
The epistles... God's epistles writtien through Paul?!?! you've gotta be kidding me... Many of them were not even written by Paul but still attributed to him.

You might even say that Paul invented the idea of evil.
Don't be so fast to credit Paul with giving us Gods word.
Study scripture a bit and you may start to see that he hijacked the faith and made it into something Jesus would never recognise as his ideas.

Psalm 36:4
Even on his bed he plots evil; he commits himself to a sinful course and does not reject what is wrong.
Sin is transgression of the law according to 1John 4 so breaking Gods laws is evil and according to the Psalm I attached he who plots to break Gods Laws and he who won't reject what is wrong.
