why can't we all just get along - share ideas over a hot cup of coffee without a fight starting out?

Because most aetheists had a religion before they became aetheists. Aetheistism is a decision after thinking about and discarding the alternatives, just as religion is a decision. If you were brought up as an aetheist, and converted to one of the three major religions, it would give you a point of view from both sides of the fence and, it would promote tolerance.
Any convert has an insight into both their old and new religions. It is this insight which compelled them to make such a drastic change, either way. So, would you deny someone with a knowledge from both sides of the question an opportuntiy to answer?

Why do the religious complain so much about Atheists answering questions? We have opinions on religion that are just as valid as yours. I am not a jackass who likes to put people down, and if I am really insulted or upset about something someone posted, I email them. I don't appreciate the generalizing and condemning of all Atheists in your question, perhaps is is you that seems like a "ja@#$%^"?

Atheism is a view on religion (i.e., that one does not believe in any gods), so I think atheists are perfectly justified in trolling the religion forums. I also think bill241961 has the right idea... let's be kind and civilized about this. Let's all order in coffee! (Mmm coffee!)
P.S.--Some atheists and Christians alike seem to think that Xtian is a slur. It is not. The "X" is actually the Greek letter chi (the "ch" sound in "Christ," if you will), and was first used as an abbreviation for Christ by the Christians themselves.

They do this because Yahoo ANSWERS is a public forum.
If you only want answers from people who share the same views that you have... Then you should probably not ask your questions here!
The religion section here at Y/A is a very interesting place. I enjoy reading the Q&A's... You have to admit, there are some freaky people out there!

As a Public Service.
First of all, I prefer the term Rationalist, or Free Thinker, as opposed to Atheist. Those terms capture the reason that people BECOME Atheists... they have learned how to think. Once someone learns how to think properly, religion is usually one of the first casualties. Religion... particularly the Abrahamic religions of desert monotheism) simply cannot withstand the glaring light of reason and critical thought. They just evaporate. Poof.
Rational people recognize that some who visit this forum are truly, sincerely seeking answers... with an open mind. That being the case, it is the moral obligation of rational people to HELP them keep their minds open... which means to help them maintain the willingness to consider alternative possibilities. So, when someone comes along in a PUBLIC FORUM, regurgitating the myths, superstitions, fairy tales and fantastical delusions of a bunch of Bronze Age goat herders, and declaring them to be some kind of cosmic 'Truth', without the least bit of credible evidence... well, that must be confronted.
All faith-based religious belief is fully deserving of all the scorn and ridicule that can be heaped upon it. It is a simple matter of rational minds standing in opposition to willful ignorance. It is quite necessary that this be done, if we are to have any hope that the human race will survive and evolve to meet our full potential. So, when myths, superstitions, fairy tales and fantastical delusions are presented and declared to 'Truth', in the venue of a PUBLIC FORUM, a confrontation is inevitable.
However, rational people DO respect your right, in the privacy of your own mind, to delude yourself in whatever fashion you deem fit.

authentic, I have observed that non secular individuals are purely as intolerant of atheist viewpoints, and mock only as lots. yet likely it is utilising reality agnostics and atheists are better oriented contained in the route of medical and logical wondering, and searching for info in assertions. considering the religion isn't in step with technologies, info, and so on., and seem better delusion than reality, it bothers persons that are better logically and scientifically minded. If there grew to change into some way for non secular human beings to go back up with any kind of info to substantiate what they say, that prayer works, and so on. then i don't have self concept that there is the resistance that there is. it truly is nearly an similar with those who've self concept in ghosts, chupacabras, and so on. till they could upward thrust up with authentic records that what they say is actual, then they're going to be challenged by technique of creating use of the logically and scientifically minded. yet I have considered attacks both suggestions, and that i actual do no longer imagine of it hurts for each individual to question human beings's beliefs. exceedingly in the journey that they are with out any kind of info.

They usually tend to study more. By not having all the answers to life's many questions, they are constantly searching for them. This might not provide a good piece of mind or any comfort, but it sure does provide a lot of information about history, philosophy, science, and religion.

If you want only one point of view; don't ask a question on a global forum like this. Go find a small town very conservative Church, get with a bunch of like-minded people and reasure yourselves that everyone else in the world is going to hell.

Thats all they are, they like to put other people down. Plus they are trying to justify the fact that they think God doesn't exist. So they come on here and insult everyone for no reason because they know that they are wrong and are just trying to make themselves feel better.

I have no problem at all with atheists answering any religious question, as long as they do it with the right attitude. However, if they respond with a smarmy, smug, "you're all stupid mindless sheep who believe anything and we are sooooo much smarter than you" tone, I lose all respect.
