Well labs are good. Greyhounds have short fur as well, and love to walk with you. Italian greyhound, and whippet are some smaller versions.

Just recently I was introduced to a dog called a labradoodle(sp). These dogs do not have fur, they actually grow hair. Which is great for all of you that are allergic to pet dander. As far as obedience, that is something that you will have to work on. I am no expert, but I have had many different breeds and I truly believe that it is the owner that decides what kind of dog they will end up being.

Boxers are great companions. They are very fast to learn commands and tricks. They have short hair and shed less than labs. They do have a high energy level but nothing a good game of fetch won't cure. I believe they are listed in the top 5 recommended breeds for families since they have such a great disposition. We have a white boxer named Luna and she is hyper when she is ready to go out and play but she is also a snuggle bug and loves to lay on the couch and hang out.

We have a Rat Terrier and she is very smart. She is having a little trouble learning how to heel during walks, but she has learned to sit, stay, play fetch. Rat Terriers and Labs or any puppy will have a high level of energy, but if you can play with them or make sure they get 20-30 minutes of exercise every day then you both will feel pretty good.

If you try and look up pictures of Rat Terriers on the Internet though you will see some pretty unflattering ones. I suggest going out to look at them yourself. Very cute!

Brittany Spaniels are the most intelligent and obedient dogs I have ever known. They love and are dedicated to their owners and they have short hair. As far as the walks go, I'm not sure what you mean but they love to go on walks. This all of course has alot to do with how they are raised.

Labs need LONG walks and shed a LOT!

Pugs and Cavalier King Charles Spaniel fit your description pretty well.
