I was painting on the canvas using oil colours. I applied acrylic colour by mistake. How do I rectify the error and save my oil painting?

The other oil colours used on the canvas are still wet. So it would not be possible to use damp sponge at this juncture.

Well you can't leave the acrylic paint on top of the uncured oils - if you do, the oils underneath will never dry and the painting will crack & craze. And since it's been at least 14 hours, you can't remove the acrylic with water now... Only thing you can do is scrape off the acrylic and repaint your oil section.

Acrylic paint is water based, if you're careful you can dampen the acrylic with a sponge and then wash it off without harming the oil paint underneath.

Just let the acrylic paint dry. You can then paint over it with your oils. It won't ruin your painting.
