Yes i would buy Iams actually this info on that website is years old and if you go to the Iams website(www.iamstruth.com) or the American SPCA site and other Canadian and American reputable Humane groups you will see that this problem was not as bad as reported and is no longer happening. We at the clinic recommend Iams and Eukanuba and when I asked the Vets about this they were shocked PETA could not let this go. What PETA does not tell you is they euthanize more animals than any pound in America-read www.nokillnow.com/PETA or www.petage.com/news070509.asp or www.petakilssanimals.com. There was some truth in what PETA claimed but three different nationsand many humane societies realized after extensive investigation that it was propaganda and exaggeration.

The cruelty claims cannot be proven but I still think even the allegations should give you some sense of the companies mentalitiy.

NEVER feed Iams or Eukanuba (or other similar foods like Science Diet, Purina, Pedigree, Pro Plan, Royal Canin ,etc). These foods are filled with by-products, chemicals preservitives, and low grade fillers.

Here are some of the ingredients in Iams:
-CHICKEN BYPRODUCTS (these are the feet, beeks, feathers, undeveloped eggs, and organs of the chicken, NO MEAT)
-CORN (dogs do not digest corn, it is just a cheap filler that often causes skin allergies)
-EGG PRODUCT (egg shells and undeveloped/deformed eggs)
-BEET PULP (cheap filler, no nutrition)
-SORGHUM (non-digestible filler)
So, really no good ingredients.

Now here are the ingredients of Innova (www.naturapet.com) which is by far the healthiest pet food in the world and actually costs the same as Eukanuba:
-TURKEY
-CHICKEN
-BARLEY
-BROWN RICE
-POTATOES
-HERRING
-APPLES
-CARROTS
-COTTAGE CHEESE
-ALFALFA SPROUTS
-EGGS
Notice how there are no by products or fillers? Just whole fresh, human grade ingredients.

The cruelty can't be proven but it is pretty obvious that the company spends more money of convincing people that they are producing a great product then on the quality of the ingredients they use. Do you ever wonder why the highest quality foods aren't advertised? Well, the companies invest more money on their products then advertising. Innova is such a good company it relies on world of mouth and it has become an international leader in pet wellness.

People, you've got to stop believing that Iams is the best....that was 10-20 years ago before new companies started producing holistic human grade products.

STAY AWAY FROM IAMS!

I just wanted to let you know how satisfied I am with Canidae. I am a current owner of a Miniature Pinscher, Ciara. Within the first week of purchasing her from a breeder, I noticed her itchy, watery eyes, runny nose, and flaky skin. At the time, I was feeding her Strong Point puppy food, that was given to me from her breeder. After a Vet visit, they had told me that Ciara suffered from food allergies. Right away I tried other puppy foods like Eukanuba, Iams, and Science Diet. Nothing seemed to stop her symptoms. I finally did my own research online and came across Canidae. When I read the ingredients list I was amazed to finally find a food with no corn, wheat, soy, or by-products. Ciara is now 8 months old and everywhere I take her, I get asked 'how come your dog's coat is so shiny?'. She has no more flaky skin, watery eyes or runny nose. It's like her allergies have disappeared! It's also more convenient because we have (2) 5 year old Tiny Toy Poodles, and a 1 year old White German Shepherd, and they can all eat the same food! I recommend this food to all my fellow Dog Lovers! You can go to the Canidae website and see my my gorgeous, healthy, shiny and tiny 6 lb Ciara in the customer testimonials.

No, I would not buy IAMS. Our pets need quality pet food. Read the ingredients list and learn what the stuff on there is and what it does (or does not do) to/for our pets. A quick pet food 101. If the pet food contains corn/corn products or by products it is a poor quality food. Do not pay attention to advertising, they all say there food is great. Corn is a filler that can trigger skin problems. (allergies, skin problems, itching and excessive shedding) By products is anything from an animal not fit for human consumption, including cancerous tissue. Quality foods have meat as the first ingredient. California Natural, Solid Gold, Innova and Merrick are a few of the best brands available. I don't feed Iams because it is a crappy food. But my decision is in no way based on petas twisting of the truth and outright lies. I wouldn't believe anything they have to say. These things are more than likely NOT going on, peta just uses things like that to help push there political agenda. If peta says it is true, it is probably not!

Good post Miriam! And it isn't just peta either, but HSUS, DDAL, IDA, etc...

I don't feed Iams simply because I don't think it's that great of a food. However, I don't believe the PeTA propaganda either, they have been known to stage and fake videos before. PeTA's eventual goal is to end all pet ownership, so if you want to lose the right to keep your beloved dogs, by all means support them. Buncha whackos......
