In my church (Presbyterian) some members are always treating our pastor (a very good one) as an employee, watching all that he and his family are doing and demanding him about the time he spends in his vacations, the use of church facilities (such PC´s)., etc., just because they think that it is their tithes that are paying his "salary". They are not bad people but in my oppinion they are shortsighted and they dont know better. I feel that he and his family suffer on account of this situation. I´m going to write an article in our bulettin about the subject. I dont want to hurt anybody, just to open their eyes. I also need some Bible verses to back me up.

Timothy had a little tension with some in Ephesus, so Paul wrote him a couple of epistles to encourage him and help him with his authority in Ephesus. Read through 1 Timothy, and see what you pick up. There'll be things in there to help both the pastor and the congregation.

Sorry, but I can't provide any bible verses one way or the other. But I do know this..... some preachers, ministers, rabbis, pastors, etc. are hired and actually have formal contacts of employment outlining various perks and bennies. Like vacation time, who will replace the pastor during vacations or illness, who decides who the replacment will be, acceptance of gifts, etc.

If my relationship with the pastor was a good one, I think I might talk to him first and see what he has to say about my concerns. I wouldn't want to stir up a hornet's nest that could harm the pastor rather than help him.
