I would suggest a private school for any child, if you can't afford a private school, I would suggest that you find a good school with small classroom sizes. Children learn the best when there are small numbers in the classroom. My daughter attends a publlic one room school house, there are 22 kids in the whole school, grades k-8. When she was in preschool there was that many kids in her classroom. After this past year in kindergarten, I was thinking about sending her to public school, but she really likes her school. When offered any school she wanted (we visited 3 different schools) she picked her school to go back to in the fall.
She learns so much more than most kids in public schools. The reason for this is because the older kids help the younger ones with their work if they have a problem. Then when the older ones are working on something, the younger ones often listen in. After school was out, my daughter wanted to learn about the presidents of the US because that is what the big kids at school learn. Anyway, we were talking about the presidents when we ran across Roosevelt. She took one look at his picture and said I know him, Mom. I personally thought the kid had lost her marbles as we had never talked about him before. She then went on to tell me the story about how the teddy bear got his name. I was impressed. Also the children have closer friendships with all the kids in the schools so there is low bullying if your child maybe at risk for that. The dress code is more relaxed also so your child can wear whatever they want at school. Also the school year is shorter which gives us more vacation time in the summer, which is very nice.
Also my daughter plays soccer and baseball which is with kids that go to public school. She also takes dance and music lessons with a lot of kids that go to public school. When she is older (i am thinking about 3rd or 4th grade) I will probably transfer her to public school so that she can build more friendships that will carry her through jr high and high school. However if you school would go all the way up to 12th grade, she would stay at that school.

It depends on where you live. If your public schools are overcrowded, violent and have poor academic outcomes obviously public school would be a smarter option. If your public schools have small classes and strong programs while your private schools are too small to offer performing arts, sports, and foreign language than public school would make more sense.
It also depends on the kid. If your child requires special services, many small private schools don't have resources to offer special ed or tutoring so services through the public schools might provide the better education. Other programs might influence the decision...if the only private school in your community has a religious affiliation that is opposed to your family's religion, you might not want your child receiving daily religious instruction at the private school.

Private schools usually are a little better than Public Schools education wise, but some Public schools are just as good. So there's not much of a difference. Public also are a little more diverse in culture. I went to both, and they were about the same.

All my Life I never tasted private school. I prefer Private, My parents are really poor, poor as rat but I tried hard to work and study since High School to University, I have regrets because Teachers taugh you less and expect from you more, but I'm okay with that, what I regret is I have a low self esteem because of the kind of teachers I have and how you are being treated, ( I was treated with less respect in public school, this is an ASIAN setting). Even now when I can see public school teachers cannot help but hate then including there shadows.

It depends on what the public schools are like in your area (and you really need to do your homework when checking on them). Many state primary schools tend to be very good with attentive teachers, lower class sizes and the advantage of neighbourhood children all attending the same school meaning your child has friends to play with nearby after-school. It's high schools that you have to worry about.
Perhaps the best option would be a state primary school and a private high school. But, at the end of the day, the actual school only goes so far and it's up to the child's intelligence and effort to see them through exams.

private schools generally offer a smaller teacher to student ratio which naturally gives the students more one on one time and generally a better education. The draw back is the cost. private schools are also better in the areas of discipline. Public schools are more like meat markets, just get the kids in and out. they do little in the way of actually teaching the kids anything, leaving it up to the parents to teach math and grammar etc.
I went to a private school, but due to financial issues, have been forced to send my kids to public schools. i hate the poor quality of the teachers in these schools. the worse teachers are the ones with tenure and the good teachers leave within 5 years because of the pay. many of these teachers are in it for the pay/benefits (summers off etc). In private school, the teachers make far less money than those in the public schools, yet more of them stay with the schools for many more years. to them, it is not the pay but the joy of teaching.

My opinion is private school as you have more control of your child is being thaught, public schools are very narrow minded in going with the flow , for example the teaching of homosexual life style to very young children and if you object to your child taking this so called class?, as happened in Massachussets , the child will get beat up and made fun of , and the adults who are suppose to be there are or will become invisible. Of course the media did not make a big deal on this first grader fiasco in Massachussetts in order not to get the gay coalition blaspheming or get sued by the A. C. L. U. who now defends the predators and not the victims! There are groups using the civil rights of the late DR. King to their advantage. Unless you are in agreement with the teaching of the public schools . or are ready to stand up for what you believe to be right, I say private school, no matter what!.

My daughter goes to a private school. I went for 12 years.
I chose to send her their not because of the better education but because of the way that the students treat each other and the respect that the students have for the teaches and the students have for the teachers and each other. Yes the smaller classrooms has it advantages in knowing your child's friends very well and their teacher knowing them.
What I found valuable is the ability to speak you mind ( in a respectful way of course) on topic that may not be able to be brought up in a public school because it may offend someone. When I was in High School I remember that Euthanasia and Abortion were really in the news. We were able to talk freely about them and the moral side while friends of mine that went to public school were hushed when they would say if was or was not morally correct, because the freedom of speech does not include voicing your religious views in a public classroom.
So in my opinion private weather it be religious affiliated or not does have its advantages over a regular public school.

Private School Parents care about their kids education if they are paying for it. The kids there are generally good kids that are not influenced by the drugs, gangs etc like public schools because they school will not put up with it, they do not have to. The kids who graduate private have higher test scores because they have more one on one attention. If at all possible go private.

Our public schools are awful. Almost every school (both high schools, all middles schools and all but two elementary schools) in our district has received failing grades for the last several years. So in our area, private schools are better. But with a one income household and five children that is not an option either. Therefore, homeschooling is better.
