immediately. God crys, laughs, comforts and celebrates whily you are praying.
If your prayer is a shopping list of wants God listens and makes notes but like Santa you are going to have to wait and you will only get what God thinks is God and appropiate.
Sometimes God even want you to do some of the work. God may not make you a famous singer but instead encourage you to join the choir and learn vocal techniques. From there you can grow to be a star.

There are times, according to the Bible, when God does not hear our prayers. This happens when we offend God by sinning against Him.
Our disobedience will block our prayers from reaching Him. Sinning is displeasing to God, as I'm sure you know.
The Bible also states that without faith it is impossible to please him, so not having faith may keep Him from hearing our prayers, but I know for sure that it will keep him from ANSWERING prayers. In fact, the Bible states that Jesus himself was unable to do many miracles when the people lacked faith.
The Bible states that he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
It also states: You have not for you ask not. You ask, and receive not, because you ask amiss, to consume it upon your lusts.
It also states many times that our FAITH is what causes prayer to be answered.
So the formula I follow is this: Quit being offensive to God, and realize that he will recognize this as an act of faith.
Then ask God for what you want, never asking for something that would violate Gods laws or be offensive to him.
Believe that you have already received what you ask for, in other words, God has already put things in motion to make it happen. In fact, the Bible states that God knew your needs long before you ever asked for help, before you were even born. He may have had something in the works that took years to come together, just to answer your prayer now.
Thank God for answering your prayer now, even though you haven't received it yet.
Act on your faith. Act as if the prayer has been answered, for until you act, you really aren't showing faith. If I told you I'd take you to Hawaii, and I'd have the ticket for you at the airport the day of the trip, if you had faith in me, you make your plans, pack your bags, and be at the airport at the appointed time. That's faith.
But if you came by taxi, and you told the taxi driver to keep the meter running, well, that's not faith, is it?
SUCCESS!

I actually had that answered for me just before Easter.
I had made a commitment to go to Mass each day and spend a holy hour in church every day the week before Palm Sunday. ( I have a key to the church). MANY people had approach me and asked my prayers for their specific needs...in addition to the people I pray for every day anyway....
The 2nd day, I missed Mass because my son was hurt at school. Seven o'clock that evening, I went to make my holy hour. As I knelt there, I told the Lord I knew He knew I had to take care of my son, that it was OK....I was going to make a Spiritual Communion, but I told Him REALLY had wanted to receive Him in the Eucharist...and that I would keep to my promise as best I could the rest of the week.
As I began my prayer of Spiritual Communion, I heard the outsdie door to the sacristy open and someone come up the steps. The keys are electronic, so even though this was evening in an urban church, I knew it was someone who was allowed to be there.....but I leaned over to see who....it was a woman who teaches in our Sunday Schhol....she had a pyx with the Eucharist and asked if I wanted to receive the Eucharist!
Now- this is amazing for a couple resaons....do to some rules we have about receiving Communion, if I had been to Mass earlier, I could not have received...but, more amazing, is the fact that COMMUNION CALLS ARE MADE IN THE MORNING! Any unconsumed hosts are to be returned to the tabernacle immediately after calls are completed. We simply do not drive around with Jesus in the car all day. But for some reason, Sandy walked in the door at exactly that moment....I burst into tears, because I KNEW my prayer had been heard....and I called and emailed everyone I had been praying for so they knew the prayers for them had been heard, too!
The answer to your question is- He hears them immediately. I know it for an absolute fact!

He listens to prayers all the time but sometimes He does not give us our wishes because they are not good for our lives or our salvation. He is like a dad,if a child ask to dad a gun will he give it to him? No, because it could hurt him. The same about our prayers and God.

Prayers must be from a repentant mind, clean heart and asking truly for forgiveness. Must be directed through Jesus intercession. You can only approach God through Jesus.
His name is Jehovah, you must ask in his name.
God is loving and true, but don't expect to understand how he will answer. Most of the time it comes from the kindness of others and unexpected.
Usually his answers cannot be traced to his actions, and often you must pray repeatedly to have him act on your prayers.
Take heart, he knows what you need, and will provide the best for your answer. It may not be exactly what you ask for, because he considers how his answer will effect others.

right away, However, he doesnt always answer when you want or how you want it. he is our father and knows a lot more than us about what is good for us. It is so important to ask for what you want and incorpoate in your prayer that you only want your request to happen if it is in his will. Hope this helps....

He hears you all the time. He even knows your deepest thoughts. And God knows best. Therefore he's answer (not vocalized) comes in either one of these three answers
1. Yes
2. No
3. Wait
God Bless you! =)
The lord is my shepherd i shall not be in want,
He makes me to lie down on green pastures,
He leadth me to walk beside still waters...
Though i walk through the valley of shadow of death,
I will fear no evil.... For you are with me...
you will comfort me, you are with me...
Surely goodness and mercy will be with me all the days of my life, And i will dwell in the house of the lord forever.... Forever

When they are according to his will.
1 John 5:14 And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.
