This is so frustrating! My 3 year old very, very stubborn son JUST finally "got it". I made the mistake of having him in Pull-Ups. I tried everything: rewards, encouragement, bribes you name it. Then, one week ago today I told him that the Pull-Ups were gone and that he was now only in "Big Boy Underwear". He responded by telling me "Well, I will pee in the potty but I can poop in baby diapers." (Told you he was stubborn) I simply told him that they were all gone and that he needed to try very, very hard to not pee or poop in his underwear. It worked! He told me he had to pee and I went with him and he ended up pooping on the potty. Yes, was a little messy but a lot better than having to change him. Try that. Best of luck!

I had the same problem. I talked to his doctor and he suggested that it might actually be a control issue and to just stop training for a couple of weeks. Completely forget about it. Go back to diapers, don't talk about it, etc. Then after 2 weeks I took a couple of days that I didn't have anything going on and knew that I could just be around the house and undisturbed and I put my son in underwear. I asked him every 45min-hour if he had to go. I put the diapers away in a drawer and told him we didn't have diapers anymore and since then (7 months ago) he has never had an accident even through the night.

hope you are using a potty chair for him... it may sound bad but you sit in there with him... and when he goes praise him.. my boys was raised in the country and they just watched their dad go to the restroom outside...urinate i mean.. but it is best just to let him sit there until he at least goes once then praise him so much... then every time he goes in his potty chair praise him and tell him how good a boy he is and look what you have did... when he goes in his diaper tell him shame on you and take him to the potty chair and show him where he needs to go now... it may take some doing but my grandson turned 2 a few months ago and he likes to sit on the potty chair... but he will learn just takes lots of time and patience...

I also had sooooo many problems with my son, he had no interest whatsoever. Then one day we ran out of diapers/pull-ups, so we told him that he couldn't pee or poop in his pants, because Michael Waltrip (his favorite Nascar driver who we were going to see that day) wouldn't like it. Since then, he hasn't had one single accident except when he was sick. Don't know if it was the mention of one of his heroes, or if he was just finally ready. I've heard that boys are harder, and that they just will not do it until it's their time. My son was the same way with walking....crawled until he was 15 months old, didn't take a single step....then he just got up and walked across the room. I know it sounds frustrating but ya just gotta wait till he's ready I guess.
I've also heard that if you just let them run around naked outside for a couple days, they'll get it no problem. Of course, that pretty much only works if you don't have neighbors around or don't care what they see.

Our middle son was hard to potty train, but we had a teenage neighbor who came over one day and was telling him to pee on my flowers. He thought that was funny. So he started potty training, although my flowers were his most famous target. He would run outside every time he had to go pee.

sit on the big potty while he is on the little potty. it may sound gross but let him hear you go. it will spark his interest and he may do better on the big potty with a smaller seat on it. they sell them at wal mart.

At this age, you have to remind them. Try setting a alarm for every 15 minutes.
