I have been asked this question many times and I have yet to able to actually bring anyone to understand what it is like to kill someone or what kind of baggage you walk away with.
Even killing someone for the right reasons (war, police duty, self defense, etc.) will likely stay with you long after it happens.
My answer to you is: You should feel happy that you don't know what it feels like.
No matter what the circumstances, when all is said and done you find yourself in a situation where you are still alive and someone else is dead at your hand. I have no regrets over what I have done in the line of duty. My experiences have been "him or me" type of situations. Still, whether I can justify it by calling it duty, self defense, etc. is beside the point.
Once you have done it, you can't change it. I can only hope for your sake that you do not ever find yourself in a situation where you have to take someones life. It will change you somehow. I have thought long and hard about this subject and still find myself unable to accurately articulate the impact that it has had on my life, mind, spirit and body.
I can tell you that simply concluding that they deserved it is not enough to ease my mind.

I think it would depend on the circumstances as stated above. But killing, no matter under what circumstances is a tragedy to endure on both sides. there are always feelings of remorse, guilt, justification (unless you are a murderer and have no conscience). Officers and soldiers are trained to make split second decisions of right and wrong, life and death..it is a tremendous amount of pressure, especially dealing with it day in and day out, the uncertainty of being shot or killed by someone else. I would say, "know your God" and have faith. It is never easy.

If I killed someone by accident, I would feel horrible:-(, if I killed somone in self defense, I would feel justified, but probably scared that I would end up in prison anyway. If I killed someone I really didn't like (and there are about 4 people I feel this way about), then I think I would just worry about getting caught. Prison would be worse than anything I think.

Hard to say. Never done it. I know that if someone was attacking me or a loved one, I would be relieved after I killed them, but aside from that, I just don't know... it would be horrible, I suspect. If I accidentally killed an innocent, like in a car wreck, I would be totally devastated. How about you?
I would really like to hear from a police officer or soldier on this one.

I would not and could not kill anyone, and just the thought of that is quite disturbing, and hope I am never confronted with such a situation. I know, I definitely would not handle it well if it were an outcome of defending my own life. That is my opinion.

The recoil.
Just kidding. I can't say because in so many situations people communicate how they would do things and you know something? No one ever really knows how it will be until they are really in that situation.

that depends on the circumstances...
If I woke p and someone threw my wife down on the floor in our bedroom and was trying to rape her then I belive Id feel pretty damn good about it.
Especially if he KNEW why he was being put out of OUR misery
