That seems like a funny question, but I know exactly what you mean. Does your dog chew at her feet? Yeast and bacteria grow in places that are warm, moist, and don't get much air. If your dog has itchy feet due to allergies, he will chew them once in a while, making them moist, which will create the perfect envirionment for yeast and bacteria, which gives them
"Frito Feet"! If they really bother your dog, ask the vet and he will probably tell you to try Benedryl tablets during allergy season. If your dog has chewed them raw, he may need an antibiotic. Check his feet over to make sure they are not sore, and also look for splinters, overgrown nails, and fleas, which can also make him lick his feet. While your at it, check his ears, too, because he could have a case of "Frito Ears" too. Ears are an extention of the skin, and allergies and moisture can cause the same thing to form in the ears, making them dirty, smelly, and very itchy. If your dog is shaking his head and scratching them, make sure you get some meds from the vet. Also keep your dog's teeth clean to reduce bacteria in the saliva. Keep him on a diet with low sugar and corn, which breed yeast in the body. Give him yogert and/or acidophilus tabs to try putting a few drops apple cider vinegar in the water dish to help his body fight the yeast. Bathe him with skin-soothing oatmeal or medicated shampoo. My dog has the same problem, and it also attacks her feminine/groin area. Very annoying!

I hear this all the time. Most people say Fritos and they have Weimaraners.
It has to do with the fact that dogs sweat from their feet and so they have an odor. Why it smells like Fritos I have no clue.
It is not a strange question I hear it about once a month or more often. I see new peole on the weim boards asking it all the time.
Glad to know it happens with other breeds as well.

That is so funny that you ask that because my wife says the same thing about our dogs paws. I can't really smell it but she swears they smell like doritoes. What type of dog do you have? We have a Cairn Terrier. They probably just smell like that from the mixture of the many things a dog walks through during the course of a day. Makes you wonder what doritoes are really made of :)

My dogs feet have a smell too, I don't know if its doritos or not but it doesn't smell bad.
I read that dogs sweat through their feet, and they use that scent for "marking their territory" kinda like peeing. You'll see your dogs always sniffing the ground on walks, and they are probably smelling another dogs feet.

My dogs feet do too! Only its more like Fritos lol! I notice that my pugs feet smell like that the pads are dry, so maybe its a combination of dry pads mixed with walking in wierd stuff all day.

well... why do your feet smell like cheese...? Dogs give off a scent when they walk so like each persons skin (when smelt closely) has a different smell, so do their feet. I think it could just coincidence that they smell like chips... or maybe its the chips that smell like ur dogs feet- now we know where the flavor came from...

I don't know but my pom is the same way and I thought I was nuts.... I think we can rule out where the dog walks as we are all in different states and have different homelife so I can only assume its some sort of chemical/hormonal thing like the way we sweat. I'm taking mine to the vet, I'll have to ask.

The padding of a canine's paw is actual an fairly thick epidermis. very reminiscent of a individual's epidermis is supplied with sweat glands that permit us to cool our physique, a canine has sweat glands additionally yet they are placed on their paws. hence, it somewhat is considerable placed cotton between their tows in the event that they have an harm or another reason that demands his or her paws to be wrapped. i'm undecided with regard to the scent in spite of the indisputable fact that, in all probability how canine sweat smells on and in between such thick epidermis as quickly as they have been engaged on the floor all day. various canine nutrition is made up of corn as a considerable ingredient; that is inexpensive yet filling so perhaps that scent secretes out of their pores with their sweat.
