How much do you want it?
If you are considering it, let him know using body language - sidways looks, looking him in the eyes a lot, turning your body towards him... you can check things like that in the internet. But make sure you check out his body language signs, so that you don't keep on making a fool of yourself when there is no use.
Also, you could tease him a little, joke, drop ambiguous comments... let him figure it out, if he is willing.
If you really really want him, and are getting desperate... just kiss him (preferably when you are alone, or alone among strangers to _both_ of you). You'd get an explicit reaction, both immediately and later.

Don't hint, just ask him out on a date (make sure you use the word "date" or he might think you're just hanging out together!!)
If he's really a mate, you can't lose him either way. As long as you don't freak out if he says no.

dont hint coz guys are stupid and wont get it or maybe just think you want a bit of fun, be straight with him tell him you would really like to get to know him on another level. if he's interested you should be able to tell from the way he is around you

Tell him, if you just hint or dress provocatively around him he'll assume you're after someone else. Blokes are very simple minded mostly.
