Why do women have a problem with the toilet seat being left up? Ok, so it's a little inconvenience for them to put it back down again, but men have the same inconvenience of having to put it up too, and we don't complain?

Someone said that it's because it's not nice to sit down on the toilet with the seat up. Eh? Do they actually just sit on the toilet without looking? What if the seat cover was down too? Do you just pee all over the cover?

The solution is to remove the toilet seat and lid completely.

If this is an issue for any of your visitors, they should bring their own toilet seat with them.

This is the deal, lol. If you leave the seat up, when we (us females) wait too long to go to the bathroom we run like heck into the bathroom, not even taking the time to shut the door, and spin around and drop our pants and sit. What happens, we fall into the toilet!!!! Ewww how gross.
The very similar problem is when men don't even bother to lift the seat. We wake up first thing in the morning and where do we head to, the bathroom. Half awake we just sit down, only to have our partners urine splashed all over our bottoms and legs. Once again EWWWWW.
If it is too much of an inconvenience for males to lift the seat and replace it, so as to create a sanitary space for others that have to use the bathroom. Then I suggest you live alone. If you have any feelings at all for your girlfriend or your wife, this would not be a problem.
How trivial.

Convention is to leave both the seat and the lid down to (a) keep in the germs and (b) stop the seat getting cold (as it did when toilets were outside).

The women in our house complain if (a) the lid is down or (b) the seat is up; I guess they are in such a hurry that they forget to look before sitting.

Their rationale is that men allways "look before they are go" and so won't have a problem

OK here we go...

In my house, the rule is seat down. This is because there are more females living in my house.

That being said, we have another toilet which is joined to my hubby's "pool room" where the seat is ALWAYS up. Which I'm fine with. Only boys use it...

So when I ask my husband or his friends to put the seat down in the main bathroom, my justification is that if it's down when you get there, and you touch it to put it up, you may as well put it down while you're there. This saves me (or other women) having to touch it. I would put his toilet seat back up if I used it, and indeed I do when I clean it.

For the record... I think that when you go to someone else's house, the rule should always be "Leave it as you found it." This goes for everything in the bathroom... so if you go in and the lid is down, put it back down. Same for the seat (either up or down)... and if you replace the toilet roll, hang it the way you found it (overhand/underhand) and if you use the soap, put it back in its dish... or wherever the hell you found it...

The answer is a subjective value one, ie it depends (probably) on whether you are a man or woman answering it.
I have only two observations to make on this issue.
One, to men the world is just one vast urinal. We will piss anywhere. Women are lucky that we don't piss on the lawn, in the washing-up bowl, over her cat etc. So as long as its going down the pan why moan?
Two, this plea will fall on deaf ears. Women want the damn seat down and will nag mercilessly until this happens.
So fellas, leave the seat down and piss out of the window. Everyone is happy then.

Well, I for one go to the loo in the dark sometimes, or when I'm half asleep or half cut (that's drunk), so it's really horrible to back up to the loo and end up sitting IN the toilet bowl on the nasty coldyness. Please, if you are a real gentleman, leave the seat down (and the lid). Plus, it's unhygienic to not put the lid down and you can't put the lid down without putting the seat down.

Toilet seat up isn't presentable at all. The bathroom looks much more orderly if the toilet seat is down.

(Don't get me wrong, I think that actually not only the seat but also the lid should be left closed) but for the sake of the argument:

Yes, when you feel like you are going to burst, and have a number of layers of clothing and a tampon to dipsose of... you may happen to sit without looking. While you guys can only manage with undoing a zipper... sometimes (I think both cases are extremes, not the usual case).

Also, my stepfather used to do that to himself a couple of time (sit without looking), after which he tended to leave it down.

Also, arguably, men also need to have it down (for poo poo), which sort of biases the issue.

(if the lid is closed, one notices that, even only with peripheral vision; whether the seat is up or down is more difficult to spot)

The seat and lid should always be put down before you flush as there is a chance that items could escape out of the top otherwise.

You should put the seat down AND the lid, before you flush the toilet. Otherwise, the flushing water sprays tiny droplets of what you have just deposited all over you and your bathroom. Yuck.
