Dear Candy,
This question sounds sincere. It is actually very common to suffer this fear. The sea appears vast, currents strong, waves big and under the water lurks the unknown! One evaluating the situation could easily lose perspective, of the risks and find themselves with an irrational fear.
The truth is that you have to confront this fear yourself and stand in the water venturing out in a controlled and calculating way, slowly pushing back your limit. It is also good to sit in the water allowing more of your body to feel wet. Do these things in your own time and do not be pressurised by friends.
Understand that there are few, practically no creatures in the water at swimming depth that could harm you, and even they would seek escape from you. As you are not facing sharks in the depths of the Caribbean or Jelly fish around Australia, please rationalise this fear, there is nothing in there to harm you.
How will you get over it? Do the above! If in any doubt write to me again before your holiday.

I think that you'd be an idiot if you WEREN"T scared of the sea! There are things in there who's sh*t is bigger than you, for god's sake! The only thing to remember is that you can be scared of it and still really enjoy it...if you respect it. Take time to learn about the tides, the currents, the waves... if you can understand it, you'll be less afraid of it. The ocean is really amazing if you can see it for what it is instead of a black abyss who's one goal in life is to swallow you up. Go to an aquarium or rent some DVD's form the discovery channel about the sea and it's wonders, and try to see it as something beautiful, powerful, and absolutely neccessary. Then the next time you are on the beach or in a boat, just stay in your comfort zone, remember what you learned, and try to enjoy it as a new experience.

Haha, I actual have a German Shepherd, hes an entire water toddler and loves some thing that splashes. purely bear in mind that your canines will take cues from you, so keep calm and be assertive and they ought to start up behaving somewhat better placidly around the sea (if theyre already such good swimmers!. ) in the different case they could have had some thing worrying even as they were youthful, or be having problems with the sea coast themselves (ie open cuts + saltwater)

Take it from someone that has been under the water for hundreds of hours in my lifetime...there is nothing that you should be scared of. On thousands of dives from Maine to the Bahamas I have only seen a few "dangerous sharks" and that has been by accident. And on top of the water there is no situation that can't be handled by keeping calm and not letting fear take hold. Check out scuba diving on one of your vacations and I know that your fear will go away and you'll love the sea!!

I am also scared of water, whether it be river, ocean or sea. I do make myself walk the beaches. I've conquered the fear by just making myself walk in it. You'll need to conquer the fear!
