Birds die where ever when ever, the reason you don't see them lying around because the animals eat them, specially the stray ones, you most probably don't live in South Africa because here you see them all the time, either squished by cars, shot with ketties that children do, or just the animals catching them.

When birds feel like their going to die they know their vulnerable and want to feel secure.
A dying bird will fly for miles to find that spot to die, its usually on the ground in a bush, in a tall field, or even in hollow trees.
Seagulls when they know their gonna die fly out to the ocean.

Unfortunately there are lots of outside cats just waiting to get them. And in fact, cats are often the reason they die in the first place -- predation by outside cats is now one of the leading causes of the decline in bird populations worldwide.

Don't know where you're looking, they usually die in places with fairly thick undergrowth. There's occasionally dead birds in our garden. And sometimes they do fall out of the sky: it's happened to me.

If you live in a city, they probably end up being a snack for a cat. My town is overrun with stray cats who are roaming around all night, and always hungry.

Insects and bugs pull them under the soil, there is a undertaker bug who makes a nest within the dead and brings up it young inside. Food and shelter in one!

You can see them on occasion if you are looking, but I would imagine other birds and wildlife eat the carcass.

My guess is that a lot of them don't make it until "natural death". The only way I've seen them die is in a cat's mouth, or bouncing off my windshield....

good question...I'd never thought about that before. Having thought about it I'd guess cats and wild animals are resposible for us not seeing the dead birds
