And I mean other than nuns and priests who are living an extreme ideal of religious piety. For the rest of us non-clergy is this a wholesome way exist and why would anyone do that?
If you remove the sexual from both heterosexual and homosexual what do you have, what do you call them?

djmantx, that sounds like a very good argument for gay marriage.

You call them straight or gay. Sexual orientation is not about the sexual act, it's about who you are attracted to.

Ascetics, possibly. The idea of rejection of the flesh has had adherents throughout recorded time - from people who lived on top of poles or in desolate caves, to the now-famous flagellants who would scar and "mortify" their own bodies. Repression of one's sexuality for religious reasons could qualify as an ascetic course of action, so as to focus on the spirit and the will of one's particular god. This is by no means an exclusively Christian phenomenon - Mahatma Gandhi was an as ascetic for many years, though admittedly only after fathering children. The man who became famous as Jesus has always been thought of as an ascetic too - no sex, just focus on God. DaVinci code hullaballoo notwithstanding, he probably was an ascetic, as he was very strongly influenced by the Essenes - a particularly strict group of spiritually-focused people.
So, there are plenty of renowned examples of this kind of behaviour. Whether it's entirely healthy way to exist is debatable - it sounds like the ultimate challenge of will; to focus on the spirit by denying the body, because many people experience harder and more severe physical cravings through self-denial. But that's at least one reason why people would do it - to purge themselves of concerns with the physical and pursuit of sexual pleasure, in order to focus the mind on the spiritual.
If one were in a cruel frame of mind, to look at people solely consumed with the spirit and yet still encased in flesh, it could be argued they should perhaps be called Dead Men (or Women) Walking, but I think ascetics is a more established description.

Abstinence. I guess this would be a word for your question.
I am a Cristian woman, and I believe that sex is a wonderful gift of God to a married couple, one man and one woman. That gift came with special instructions. And those instructions are as valid now as they have always been, forever.
You are not only a gay person, but you are also a hateful gay person. You are looking the world to accept you, not God. But you are not alone. There are many Christians who do not actually do what God wants us to do. We do not save ourselves to a marriage, we might have actually multiple partners before marriage and even during the marriage. It is easier to attack people like you, because it might make us feel that at least we are not doing that. And that kind of attitude is a big no no in the eyes of our God. We could not make it without God's mercy. Anybody, not just gay people...cannot make it to the heaven if we are only remorseful but we do not change, repent. We do need to repent, and that is a part of following Christ. There are a lot of married couples, that they do not treating each other like God wants us to treat each other. We all fall short from the Glory of God. By His grace an mercy we get saved!
There is something very signifigant written in the Bible right after the Lord's prayer. My advice to you is that SEEK God. The most loving thing for you to do to your life partner is, that you would love each other withour sex, if you want to follow Christ. And if you do not want to be with God forever, then enjoy him, your boyfriend as long as you can. I can personally say to you that I am not doing a great job as a wife, so when we think sin is a sin is a sin...we are both not worthy of our God's mercy...I want to seek Him, and I confess my sin, I repent from my sin to my best ability, and I accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior.
So I could feel pretty good about myself if Icompared myself to you, who could not care less about what Jesus thinks. But I don't, because I need to keep my eyes on Jesus, who is perfrect and compare myself only to Him...ohh boy, that keeps me very humble. It is not easy to follow Jesus, because sin is so dear to us. It is easier to see other people's sins. God hates sin because it separates our hearts from Him.
Jesus loves you, and He can forgive your sins. Who will lose their life for Jesus, will receive it back...that means that even if you feel that you have to limit your life here so much that you feel that you are giving up too much...Jesus will pay you back ten fold...or more! Now I understand one of the saying from my childhood "With tears in our eyes we belong to our Father's palm"
God bless you!

Repressed? Frustrated? Too unattractive to find a mate? (Just kidding about that last one. Perhaps they just haven't found the right person yet.)

Eze 3:17 Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me.
Eze 3:18 When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.
Eze 3:19 Yet if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.

If you still have the desires and urges you are still hetero/homo/whatever-sexual. If you completly remove (not supress) the sex drive you become an asexual.
