OK I want to join up after Uni (another year to go), either in the Army as infantry or in the marines (both as an officer).

I have two questions, if you could help I'd be grateful...

1. How fit should I be? I want to work towards a target before joining. Eg, number of push ups, sit ups, running distances etc etc would be ideal.

2. Can I walk in to a recruitment office and say, 'what job would I fit in to best?', rather than them asking me? I am unsure what role I am best suited to, but I'm worried this might come across as me simply not caring what I do (which isn't true).

Thanks!

1. On the application form you must be 'reasonably fit', (that includes medically). You must have the willingness to become fit - that's what they need to hear. You can smoke and drink all ye like for the time being, just don't have a migraine or chest pains.

2. They'll sit you an aptitude test in which they have a print out of every job you are suitable for. As a graduate you will be a commissioned officer and the prospects are in line with your degree. i.e. whether it be media, linguistic, logistic etc. They will ask you questions and narrow you down to a few choices to think over for a couple months.

I've been through it myself and am studying at uni just now as well. All the best to you mate and good luck! Just get yourself along to a recruitment office soon to talk to someone about what you plan. They're really friendly. Go for it!

Just go to the local recruiting office and have a chat you will probably find your not suited to infantry or the marines. If you are serious about your fitness then work on the brain as well as the body, both need to be fit and as an officer you need to be able to command people that are stressed, fed up, **** up, hungry, scared to death and want to be home. By the same fault you must have the ability to command their respect at all times, just because your a Rupert (and a new one at that) does not give you carte blanche to boss people around and think your better.
You must be humble enough to know that there are privates that will know a fook sight more than you and always will because they are more experienced. A good soldier doesn't need a rank to be respected or to get access to more info, he will just know.

just be true to yourself, no airs , no graces and no bullshit. If you really want to excel then go for the parachute reg and then onto the specials, less bull, more action that means something. You could even try for the new special recon force or the new special forces support force. Just don't let your soldiering go to waste!

Try this site http://www.army.mod.uk/servingsoldier/index.htm amd follow the link to careers. There are suggestions on this site on how to get more information. With regard to fitness I would think the fitter the better! I would think that you could go into a recruitment office and find out what job would fit you best. Before you do this, I would suggest identifying your key skills and interests so that they can then work with you to identify "best fit"

Walk into a recruitment office and repeat everything you just told us to them, tell them that you have a year to go before joining and ask them what you can do to prepare yourself for joining. They will be more than happy to inform you of the best ways to prepare yourself.

1. I imagine you need to be really really fit, considering what they put you through, but having no info on how the Royal Marines, I wouldnt know mate

2.Usually, in my experience, you go to either and Army, Navy, or RAF career office and hand them your CV, and they'll see on your CV what your good at, and suggest a career route in the Armed force that you choose

Hope this helps!

you do a written recruitment test, which is not just general knowledge but IQ type questions as well...when they analyse your score they tell you what sections in the forces will accept you...takes a couple of hours to do.
As for personal fitness... become the fittest you can in your own time, this way it will be less of a shock when you get to the training camp.

Officers have to make decisions
Looks like you can`t
So forget the forces
Find something Else to do.
Politician for instance
Cos if you **** anything up then
It will be covered over
