People swing the opposite arm forward compared to the leg. eg Left leg and right arm. This balances the dynamic forces while they walk helping them to walk in a straight line. If you don't swing your arms when you walk, you'll tend to swivel left and right as you go along. Put yur hands deep in your pockets and try walking briskly - see what happens.

Swinging hands is a balance to the body of your moments of legs.

Recently it was also studied that swinging hands adds the potential energy in your body to move ...............this makes our movement more easier.

to counteract the swinging motion of their legs, next time you walk you'll notice that your arms and legs swing in opposite pairs, the left arm is forward while the left leg is back, so this means that your body stays balanced rather than toppling to one side or the other, if you didn't swing them like this it would be harder work to walk and your whole body would snake along the pavement....

It's a balance thing... when your right leg moves forward, your left arm comes forward too and visa versa- it's not just your hands it involves the shoulders too. Try running and not moving your arms, but don't hurt yourself. To take it a step further, when you crawl on your hands and knees- the same principle applies, ie left leg forwards almost coincident with your right hand moving forward and visa versa. Hope this helps.

It is an animal instinct. Animal uses all the 4 legs while walking.Due to evolution, front legs have become hands, but the same habit continues and the hands are swung while walking.
