Trying to put up the curtain rods. I don't know what the wall is made out of but I can not get the screw in the wall for anything. Please help me find a way!

Try a dry wall hook. It's a little plastic piece that a screw fits in. It helps keep the screw from falling or tearing up your wall.

By not knowing do you mean that literally? Depending on the age of the house it is likely drywall/sheet rock, and is easy to install screws. The issue is that drywall needs some type of anchoring for the best effect.

So many different types are available. I prefer the type that are often know as Ezee. They are plastic, approx 2 inches long, threaded, with a pointed end, hollow interior to accept a screw and are easy to use.

Mark the spot for the rod bracket, tap the pointed end into the spot until the threads are at the wall, then screw the anchor in until it's flush, then install the brackets.

These anchors are common, offer more strength than many others, accept a decent size screw, and can be removed if ever you choose to do so.

The other issue is that there are studs surrounding every window. Perhaps with a long enough screw and the desired placement of the rod brackets, you might get the screws to find the studs and not need anchors.

Besides a drill ? With a small bit to drill through the metal to get the screw started ? You can buy self tapping screws. You might already have those but the work best when you use something like a cordless drill. Last solution. You can stretch the curtain rods out far enough until you reach the sheet rock if you are in an emergency to get them up today.

It is probably a cement wall you are working with. If this is the case you will need a heavy duty concrete drill to make a hole. You may try masonry bit on your power drill and see if that will work. you will want to get something from the hardware store to anchor into the hole to hold the screw in place.

It must be one of those fire walls that they used to build apartments with.

Check the source out. And good luck with the new project!

I am guessing your wall is either drywall or plaster (is it just an average looking, painted wall?).

So go to your local hardware store and ask them for the proper screws and drywall plugs for drywall. Do you have a drill? Ask the hardware store what size drillbit to use for the plastic plug. Drill the hole, hammer the plug in, then put the screw into the plug using a screwdriver.

The plastic plug prevents the screw from stripping the hole and sliding out later down the road.

Check your screws. There are a wide variety of screws. There's a type for almost every material and there's also "self tapping" which means they drill the hole for you and those that aren't self tapping which means you should probably drill a hole first.

If it's just starting the hole that's an issue try starting it with a nail or awl about the size of the screw you want to use. If you don't have any luck with that, you may need to drill a hole. Of course, drill bits are every bit as complicated as screws.

the studs to frame the window should e close to the window edge.if not wood framing, then it must be a masonary product, like cinderblock.in that case you will have to drill a hole and install a cement anchor.it is a plastic slug that goes in the hole you drilled,as you put the screw into the plastic it expands an grps the hole.good luck

mark where you want your curtain hooks then drill pilot holes (1 size smaller) than the screws you plan on using then screw them in,if the drill bits does not go in try a different kind ,like a masonary bit or a metal bit.

You need to find the studs in your walls. If you "knock" on your wall, and it sounds "hollow", there's no stud right there. Keep testing the wall until you find a stud. Screws will stay in if you put them in studs, but will easily fall out anyplace else.
There are devices you can buy called "stud-finders" that are relatively inexpensive and will save you your knuckles....

if you can't get it to go in at all then you will have to use a drill and make your hole first. then put a shield in the wall and then put your screw in. it sounds hard but is it so easy. go to a home depot and they will show you how to do it.
