A friend of mine was stabbed by a suspected HIV carrier. They are currently waiting for the results of the HIV test from the hospital. This is, of course, driving my friend mad. I am trying to be supportive, but, obviously, my friedn is very upset and just not listening to anybody... My question is this... How can I be there for them?? I'm being supportive, I'm being reassuring, but I'm at a loss what to do to help for them now. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Please help!?!

There's not an awful lot you can do at this stage beyond being there, and it sounds as if you're doing that already. There's nothing worse than the twisted, knotted, cold, icy sick feeling you get when you're wating for any life-changing hospital results. And getting through this part always going to be very internal because there is no way out of it except through your own turmoiled mind.
But having a good friend there, who you KNOW without question will be there for you no matter what, is a lifeline which will help keep your friend coming through it and out the other side. Whatever the results are, it will be better than the horrible limbo s/he is in right now. Offer lot of hugs and support and provide the knowledge that you will be there to help deal with the results, whatever they are.
Depending on what your spiritual viewpoint is, prayer might help, or if that's not your thing, try just sitting quietly in a peaceful room where s/he can have a brief oasis of calm and let some of the nameless limbo panic wash away for a while. The mind can only take so much fear!

Be supportive... Also, was there an exchange of blood? Just curious.... Also, the doctor should have advised a preventative Rx of Truvada. This is given to people who might have come in contact with HIV and if given at time of exposure, the prolaxis (as its called) should be taken for a week. Since the HIV virus has not gotten a foot hold in the system the Truvada can take care of it... Its usually given to rape victems and such...
Anyway, be supportive... As long as there wasn't an exchange of blood, your friend should be fine, its just the emotional rollercoaster that you go through waiting on the results.
It'll be OK though.
Take care and God bless.

no individual has yet got here around the starting place of HIV. The preferable hypothesis (the most suitable time I checked) replaced into that SIV (simian immunodeficiency virus) someway mutated and crossed from primates (likely chimpanzees) into people (transforming into HIV, or the human immunodeficiency virus). it is only a hypothesis, notwithstanding it type of feels to be the most supported one. both kinds of HIV look to have originated in 2 places in Africa from 2 diverse species of primates. If it is real, it ought to have spread early on by ability of people butchering monkeys in the jungles of Africa, and particular by ability of sexual contact with their spouses. the in common words reason people in the country imagine it really is a "gay affliction" is that it really is assumed the virus first got here to the country with the help of Europe by ability of a gay guy, which presented it into the gay community, and it is what made the data. Had it spread by ability of the breeder community, i'm particular it will be stagmatized extremely in a unique way. notwithstanding, in the country, as interior some thing of the international, it really is now an equivalent-chance pathogen, and is not constrained to, or often extra regularly happening in any particular crew of people.

Hello,
A hiv person stabbed him, did the hiv person have an open wound as well and did they have a blood to blood contact if that is no, then the chances of him contracting the virus is relatively low..Just be there for him and get as much information as you can to support him. Don't run away from him, tell me you are always going to be there for him okay.....
You don't know if he is hiv yet, so i wouldn't worry just yet. your friend is just so shocked and angry what if ......
be there for him..
is he religious if he is ..he would know that what goes around comes around.....
Take care and God bless

you should be there and love them regardless...just listen and don't judge...just be a shoulder to cry on and supportive regardless of the outcome of the tests...pray for them

I think your doing pretty much everything you can,, you are there for them, nothing else you can do, just try and re-assure them that the chances of them being infected are very slim
