I'm an atheist (or infidel if you prefer) and it seems that I am more informed about the christian religion then most of the christians I run across. It seems to be that way for all the atheists I know too. How can someone believe something so blindly and not know a thing about it?

The problem is that most people view themselves as a Christian or a Catholic or whatever simply because their parents are or were and that's what they grew up with regardless of whether they actually practice or believe in their said belief.
I am a Christian and I agree with you. It's sad. The Bible tells us to be ready at any time to give testimony to our belief and why we believe it, and so many Christians, as you put it, blindly believe without knowing why.
I don't believe most atheists know more about christianity than most Christians, however. The reason I say that is because every atheist I've come across either mis-quotes or misinterprets Bible verses and misrepresents what the verses mean, so obviously their understanding of the Bible is incorrect. Not all, but every one I've come across.

I would love to talk about it sometime with you. I am actually really well informed about my religion and unlike so many that are on here I don't blindly follow what people say I often question and I usually get good answers, but I do question and I didn't even know about God until I was in college so it was very much my own decision and btw you shouldn't sterotype people. I could say things about athiest and I would never call someone who doesn't believe in God an infedel that makes it sound like your trying to kill them instead of trying to save them. Seriously though if you ever have a question just send me an email I would love to talk to you about God sometime and any questions that you might have or things that you think I don't know about my relgion I would be happy to hear if by chance I didn't know it I am sure I would love to find out more.

I do read up on history of religion. I don't follow religion I follow my Savior. It's not anything anyone without the Holy Spirit would understand. Before I converted last year, I was an atheist, a Satanist, a lost person; I didn't understand anything of the Lord. I cursed Him and denied Him until one day He called me. But I completely understand all you atheist and non-believers. I would say the same, "oh Christians? Hypocrites!" But guess what I was looking to see what they did and didn't want to notice what I was doing. One day(many weeks) I had to cleanse my heart, mind and soul; you know what people say about detoxing, that's what I did. I mourned, I wept, I realized why I felt so down on God, it was me and things done against me by others that I felt it was easy to blame God. I pray some day you too will experience what I did. It's a beautiful thing.

Really? I am pretty sure I know quite a bit about it, but theres always more to learn. I've had MANY atheist answer my questions, clearly not knowing anything about it. One atheist told me there would only be 666 souls enter heaven, and that it was in the Bible. If you can tell me the correct number, than I may believe you know as much at least as some Christians. Up for the test?

Take for instance, {and that i don't know this myself, yet my chum who replaced into raised Catholic and has examine the Bible, even went to Catholic college, informed me this} the very incontrovertible actuality that they continually use Leviticus as an excuse to be adversarial to gay Marriage. nicely, first of all, it also says now to not use more advantageous than one type of textile to make textile or some thing to that influence. i'm sorry I genuinely have a poor memory. And it also says in the starting up of the hot testomony that Jesus dieing on the opt for everybody's sins truly nullifyed the old testomony making some thing from Leviticus now not valid because that's in the old testomony. I advise heavily, people use that to infringe upon people's rights then turn round and devour red meat and different "unclean" meat that replaced into banned earlier the hot testomony. the unhappy element is, is that there are distinct wise Christians which have examine the Bible forwards and backwards and nevertheless disreguarde all of that! And if i'm incorrect on any of that, purely notify me and next time i'd be in a position modern-day actuality and in no way some thing from my shaky memory. :P

You make an excellent point, except for one thing: you assume that these so called 'Christians' are indeed Christians, but get this: a true Christian is someone who believes in Christ and His teachings, yes? And Christ taught us to study His word, and be doers - not just hearers - of His word, correct?

So if these people don't know much about Him, how can they be true Christians?

I submit to you that, with the exception of brand new Christians, a Christian will know more about his or her religion than you do, AND will live as Christ taught. After all, Christ stated that you would know who His followers are because they would have love one toward another, and they would even love their enemies. That's an awful lot of love. Sounds like what the world needs now is more Christians.

Which makes me always wonder, what do Atheist’s have against love, anyway?

Okay, so you know for a fact that there is no God, correct? After all, that's the definition of atheist, isn't it? I mean, you didn't state that you were an agnostic.

Of course, since 99.9999999999999999% of the universe has not been explored, you cannot prove that there is no God, can you? Not even to yourself.

And since your mind, and mine, and the minds of all of us people combined contain less than 1% of all universal knowledge, you are not even certain, at least based on fact and knowledge, that there is no God, because it is possible, even though you don’t BELIEVE it, that God could exist somewhere in the other 99 plus percent of universal knowledge that we lack, isn't that true?

Stating that there is no God because we cannot see Him in our known universe is like searching a one inch square area for a particular grain of sand that is lost somewhere in the world, and then stating that, based on your search, the grain does not exist. That would truly be an ignorant statement, wouldn’t it?

So atheism is only a belief, based on ignorance.

It's just that we cannot detect most of what's in our universe, and we are simply blind to what's out there, so my question to you is, how can you believe in something so blindly and not know a thing about it?

I make no bones about the fact that I choose to believe in God. I cannot prove to you that he exists anymore than you can prove to me that he does not exist. But I am intellectually honest, I admit that is a faith. Will you make the same admission about your atheism?

I do believe that there are a lot of people going to 'Church" who do not have a relationship with God. Some of the people who have the closest relationship may be those you least expect! They may be spending time in a prison for a terrible crime. The bible says those who are forgiven much, loveth much. That is what GOD is all about (love)........why are you so bitter? Doesn't being a atheist give you joy? You have informed yourself so that you will have amunition to fight against God, and still you wonder and cannot completely convince yourself.

Unfortunately churches, not unlike our public schools, are full of people that may have learned the answers without learning the concepts. There are people that go to the same church their whole lives and never really examine the reasons behind what they believe. In much the same way people believe what their teachers or parents always said, they believe what their preachers said. Without question.
The Bible says, in 2 Tim. 2:15, that we should study so that we won't be embarrassed by appearing not to know out faith.

How can someone who knows anything about science deny God? As for knowing "the Christian religion" what else should Christians know? Its history? Why? The main point of Christianity is that Jesus died for our sins and that if we accept Him as our Savior and ask for forgiveness we will have eternal life in God's kingdom. Thats all we need to know.
