Hello..
am not too sure about how to make him play on his won.. i dont have a baby myself, but for the best advise, i'll suggest that you see a gyneacologist.. or maybe even an obstetrician. that way, you'll get advise that is both safe and professional.
Good luck!

I care for my 1yr. old granddaughter during the week while her parents work. She also is going through the clinging stage. She's either laying on top of me to go to sleep or sitting by my side holding on to my clothing so I can't go no where or hanging on to my leg. Having a private bathroom moment,is a sponge bob cartoon and a cookie in her hand, then hopefully I can sneak off. At first it bothered me. But now I just cherish the time because soon enough this stage will be over and the terrible 2's will be here. The dishes can wait. Love them while they want to Love U.

It is very normal for the 1 year old to do this, I would suggest embracing that moments you can, but if you really need to get the baby entertained I would try movies, books, a pet, etc. All of those entertained my daughter at that age, and she loves movies now! She started watching TV her first day home from the hospital, so I knew right away that she would be easily entertained. You just have to figure out what intrests them, try a couple of parenting magazines because they have some great ideas in there.

This is just a phase. He just realized he is an individual apart from his mom. Therefore he feels insecure. Try to reinforce the love by kissing him, hugging him. Sometimes you will notice he will go and play by himself but he will keep an eye on you. And suddenly he will come back to you crying.
Do not worry it is only one of the phases.

Take him out to a playground and show him kids playing around with each other, once your baby starts gaining interest in their activities, encourage him to play with them. Once he is comfortable with others around, I am sure he will leave this habit.
All the best!!!

Sounds heartless, but leave him to play on his own.

It is normal for him to wan to be held like this, enjoy it now, when he is a teenager he won't want anything to do with you.
