I'm African by boyfriend is American he'll be be going to El Salvador for work and wants me to go with him. My brother thinks we should get married first . Is he right? We've been dating for a year now but he is in the middle of a divorce and still smarting from that expericence.

They had separated two years ago and in March last year he filed for divorce and we started dating in September but had been in the same running group since he moved here.

if you want to get married then that choice should be made by you , your brother is just trying to look out for you , though the idea of the two of you getting married before moving isn't bad , it suggests some kind of commitment fro your boyfriend part that he will always be there for you for better or worse . Interesting....you've been dating for a year and NOW he is in the nmiddle of a divorce. What was he when you started,,,married? No wonder he is going to El Salvedor. I think your brother would be more concerned that a man who is still married who cannot get married and hasn't asked you to marry him wants you to leave the country. hmmm there is a thought. Stop pulling the race card..it has nothing to do with the stupidity of the entire situation. How old are you?!?!?

Please don't! Though it sounds like a cliche but I think you should marry only if love and desire makes you to. Your brother is not part of the list with reasons. I guess he tells you that because he cares about you and he wants you to be secure when you go abroad. However, I don't see what kind of security you will have when you wake up one day in El Salvador and find out that you sleep next to a man who you married because "you had to"?!?!? Please, look into your heart, find out better reasons for marrying and then do it if there are such.

If you don't want to get married right now, you should definitely not get married right now. You will always regret getting married when you didn't want to. Give it some time. You can go to El Salvador with him, if you want to, and you don't have to get married to do so. If you don't want to go to El Salvador, then, yes, it will be hard to maintain the relationship with that kind of distance. But if you love him and he loves you, it's worth the wait.
