Let's not blame the soldiers, they are under oath to fight in air, on ground and sea where ever they have been ordered to.
Present Government might feel it embarrassing to issue withdrawal orders to troops without any apparent gain except for capturing Saddam. "We got him" was a very proud pronouncement by the American general, though to me he looked so small taking that much pride in that with a heavy occupation contingent in Iraq.
Shows lack of professionalism and commitment in the main aim which is not clear even to the fighting forces.
The next administration might have to make it a part of election campaign to call the troops back.
Let's pray for a better time in America.

I didn't know that wars were ever popular. I thought they were fought for domination or defense. You misunderstand the motives of war. Wars are based on money but people are lead to support the cause because of some real or imagined danger to their nation. The US has engineered events to bring about military action such as the capture of Noreiga but we do nothing about the drug cartels in Mexico? The Gulf of Tonkin was engineered to bring further troops into Vietnam and at the same time make it appear that it was in self-defense. We engineered the establishment of Ngo Dien Diem regime in Saigon and when he got too headstrong, we bumped him off. Now in each of these events, there were contractors providing the supplies and equipment, giving the Pentagon big buying power and the trickle-down economy enriched a lot of pockets. Bell Helicopters was not doing well at the beginning of the Vietnam fiasco and a new tactic 'Vertical Assault' was developed...all well and good as several hundred-about 800-helicopters were destroyed and they were pretty cheap...only a half million or so each...but someone laughed on the way to the bank. Dupont smiled, and so did RMK-BRJ, a subsidiary of Halliburton and just guess who used to be one of the executives there? We shouldn't forget the vested interests of oil companies with a stake in the Middle East and the oil fields there. In Asia there is a saying that life is cheap but perhaps it is becoming cheaper in the west too. The press was the main cause of the servicemen being disrespected as they glorified any atrocity until all people began to believe that the loyal soldiers were cut-throats and baby killers. Yes, things got out of hand but one must understand the stress that the young men were under, the fear and that waiting. The waiting was the worst part...waiting for the attack...nerves were pulled like the strings of a violin...just waiting. However the newsmen breezed in and out and spent many happy hours in the bars of Saigon or flew off to Bangkok to relax but their stories hurt the men in the mud. The only way to know war is to be there, and I don't recommend it. It is really time for all good men to sit down and stop this stupidity.

It sounds like YOU are the one treating soldiers bad when they get home. Do you understand if we leave it makes things worse all over the region & results in LESS peace & MORE violence, and ultimately in many more US troops killed. There is no way out but victory!!!! You must accept this, or at least just sit in the corner & be quiet while we do our jobs & change the world for the better, make freedom where opression existed & gurantee it for all time as an example that changes middle eastern culture in the long-term so Islamic Extremism is laughed at by future arab generations rather than sympathized with. You don't get the mission, you don't get the troops doing it. You hate the President & want to bash him with whatever you can find, but the more you drive down his poll numbers the more he'll be forced to get involved where generals should be making decisions & the more he'll reduce troop numbers when we need to maintain. Just keep your politics out of war & like I said let professionals do their job. You have every right to believe what you want, but don't take the reason you have that right for granted or be so selfish not to help other people achieve it also.

It's not the Government's fault that the Soldiers are treated bad when they come home from war. That falls directly on the shoulders of the Jackasses that treat them like that!
Why can't anybody take responsibility for their own actions? I don't care what your views are on the war, that doesn't mean someone has the right to treat the Military bad! The Government doesn't promote this kind of behavior! They're not telling us to treat these men and women wrong! People make their own choice to do that!
