Bloody handcuffs would be more intimidating.

Get some disinfectant spray at the market.Easy to spray on and rinse or soak them in hot water with some bleach and soap and then rinse. Every time you use the cuffs they should be cleaned. I don't know if that is possible though. At least once a day or do if they get blood or something on them.

A mixture of 10% bleach and 90% water should be sufficient. Wipe them down daily, if they are used daily. You may even want to wipe them down after each use. HIV survives outside the body for only six minutes, but most people concerned would not consider that a valid safety factor. I hope this helps.

You can spray your cuffs with Lysol (it does not make them rust) or Tilex (this will dry out the oil though and you'll have to reoil it later). The best method is to clean frequently but that is not practical during the day. I just spray with Lysol and put them back wet in the cuffcase. It hasn't bothered them yet.

Everyone I know usually uses two pair, rotating them through out the day, and trying to clean one while using the other. All we have ever used was a bleach water solution.

In dispatch, we use alcohol wipes on the phones, Nextel, keys on the keyboard. some of the pens. Or there are Lysol wipes now.
