hey guys....
the world is getting darker and bleaker by the minute... man killing man.....certainely no religion proclaims this..... however, man still continues to use religion as a cover to wage his personal war...... Religion, faith, prayer have somehow seemed to lost their meaning..... we are simply repeating history........ religious wars have been going on for decades........ Can we do away with religon???.... maybe find an alternative belief........one which does not state what we can and cannot do.....but in fact empowers us to choose whichever path we deem fit..... after all religion should enhance one's life.... not arrest it.......what say??

It seems to me that there is enough religion in the world to fuel violence and hatred, but not enough to instill peace an tolerane. I don't think that makes religion evil, but some people still use it as an excuse for war, just like back in the day. Look at the Israel and Palestine right now, and even Lebanon who is now involved. Misunderstanding is a common human problem in race, culture, and especially religion. The problem won't go away with the disappearnace of religion, but hopefully those who use religion as a tool of war will one day use it to promote peace.

Well first of all it is important to remember that religion was made for man and not man for religion. It is true that man is killing man but this does not mean there aren't devout people in this world. Faith tells us to step away from evil and do good. It sets before us the rewards and punishment that we will receive depending on the kind of lives we've lead in this world. So religion cannot be discarded or done away with.

The personal spirit inside a man/woman is so important. Religion, faith, prayer have not lost their meaning. They are as important today as they were a thousand years ago. With the news we a bombarded with what is happening . Sometimes we just need to turn it off and tune into ourselves and our well being and do something kind for the next person we meet. Volunteer and help improve things in our community. Locally we can make a difference.

Yes the world is getting bad to worse but did you know 1400 years ago all the things which are happening now were predicted by prophet muhammed as exactly as it is now.

So whats the reason for all these ? it is the lack of religius knowledge among us we dont practise our religions properly this includes all christians, jews, muslims and others if people do there will be less issues

Basically it is not religion but the lack of following it !!

Christianity is not a religion...it's a relationship with God through His Son, Jesus Christ. It's just that a lot of "Christians" either don't know that, or don't remember.

I think that one of the reasons so many treat it as a "religion" is because by wanting to take back control of their lives, they've stepped in the way of the Holy Spirit, forgetting what brought them to the Lord in the first place. But as people who chose to accept Jesus and actually follow Him, we need to let the Holy Spirit do His work in and among us, as a united whole.
In other words, Christianity today (in many respects) is not how it was meant to be. I believe that if we trusted God in every aspect, praying, listening for God's response, and acting on it without our own biases, and came together as the full Body of Christ (with Jesus as the Head), then Christianity would stand out, separate from religions, and your question would be more like, "what must I do to be saved?"

Oh, and as for stating what we can and can't do...we're told not to do certain things, not b/c God is a dictator, but b/c He cares about us, and doesn't want us to do things that are bad for us. Also, some things were meant as good, but in certain contexts b/c of what they do or what happens during them. But when we take hold of them for our own personal pleasures or reasons, then we turn what was created a blessing, into something that can (and will) hurt us or mess us up. So it's not a matter of not being able to do it, but not being good for us to do. And as temples of the Holy Spirit, we're called to take care of our bodies.

I hope society reaizes that religion is old and useless. Sadly people have been so conditioned that they depend on religion as a drug. Religion has not benefited society despite what religious leaders claim.
Religion is nothing more than a way to exploit the ignorance of people.

I think that most people who claim to follow a religion are just pretending to have faith to be 'trendy'.
A long time ago, if your loved one's became sick, you basically had to hope that they would recover on themselves. With nothing else to turn to, people prayed for 'divine intervention'. These days, you take them to the hospital, and most of the time they get some antibiotics, maybe some surgery, and recover.
When travel was done on sailing ships, you had to hope the winds were blowing in the direction you wanted to go. If they weren't 'God didn't want you to travel today.' These days you jump in an airplane and go wherever you want.

People still atribute their own good luck, and others bad luck to 'the will of God', but in general people aren't as stupid these days.

Politicians like religion, because people are still ready to jump on the religious bandwagon and suport invasions of harmless countries because 'God wants us to'. Our societal structure is still based on the primitive structure devised when people still believed in God. We're slowly developing sense, but it's taking time.

People have always used religion to serve their own purpose thereby missing the true meaning of a higher being than ourselves. We are a world of hypocrit and ignoramuses, because if we truly practiced our faith,, priests would not be molesting children, mega churches would have more wealthy members in the congregation and there would be no church/state bans. they would work hand in hand as a practiced doctrine.

The same state would exist as today.

What alternate belief could you have that EVERYONE would agree with?

Which path we deem fit....that sounds like anarchy. What if I decide that red lights don't apply to me? I'll be running into people in my path but following my new belief.

Dumb idea.

"Religion is something left over from the infancy of our intelligence; it will fade away as we adopt reason and science as our guidelines." — Bertrand Russell, philosopher, mathematician and winner of the Nobel Prize for literature

If you want freedom from the precepts and rules of religion, it seems to me that what you really need is to do away with religion. It will fade, as Russell said, but it will take a long time. Perhaps we should be speeding it on its way?
