Am 13 going into my last year of middle school 8th grade yes!! My parents dont really mind how much they spend on my clothes Because my older brother who is 18 is just a t-shirt and jean guy so his clothes are not expensive. I have school unifrom though so it really sucks that I cant wear any of my stylish clothes to school only on like these Spirit weeks that you need to pay $5 to where what ever you want. I suggest that for you daughter you buy her clothes at Gap kids that's where my mother would buy my clothes when I was 6. Once she gets older you should try Limited too she would really like it! Old navy would also be great and not expensive!

I spend less than $100 (early-elementary), including shoes. We get lots of hand-me-downs from older friends that are still in good enough shape to wear to school. DD has a fall birthday so relatives usually send clothes for that, as well as Christmas. I don't buy a lot for back to school because by Dec. the closets are pretty full! The year DD went to a school w/uniforms was the year I actually spent the most because I had to buy all new rather than hand-me-downs & gifts.
As others mentioned, I also like Target, Kohl's & Old Navy for style & price!

I have 3 going into school this year. A 4th grader, 3rd grader, and Kindergartener. I spend on clothes about 200.00 a piece. That is NOT including the backpack and school supplies. WIth my 3 all the school supplies together totaled around 120.00. That is NOT with the back packs, I am looking at another 150 or so just for 3 backpacks.
But it really all depends on your budget.
I mostly shop at Kohl's, Target and Old Navy.
School supplies I buy at Walmart.
Shoes I try to buy those at kohls also.

My kids get three new outfits that they get to pick out for school to wear. Everything else is bought ahead of time on sale in a size bigger then what they wear now. That way i can spend a little bit every month and still keep them in clothes that fit. So when they do get a growth spurt 3 or 4 months after school starts they have a stack of new clothes that fit!
This stratgy will probably change as they start to spend more then 8 months in one size. But still, if they aren't completely out of clothes, then I'll probably limit the new clothes purchase to a handful of outfits for those first days of school.

I've done something with my sons that works very well--but they were a bit older than your daughter. I started this when they were 9 and 11.
In July, I presented them each with $500 cash in an envelope, and I told them that for the next 12 months, "If you wear it, you buy it." The only restriction on how they bought clothes was (because I didn't want to be thrown in jail for child neglect) they had to have appropriate winter outerwear. Other than that, they were welcome to buy whatever they wanted.
They have become some of the best shoppers I've ever seen. For instance, my younger, who was always wanting the $100 Nike shoes, now looks for deals at Foot Locker, like 2 pair for $65, and he'll buy the shoes in two different sizes to last the whole year. Or, they buy high quality outerwear at LL Bean, but they buy them one size larger, so they last for two years. (When those were my ideas, I was an unpopular mom, but now that those are THEIR ideas, they are so brilliant!) Instead of $22 T-shirts, they are fans of the $5 shirts at Old Navy now.
So, here's what I'm gaining--my sons are good shoppers, they have learned to budget their money and make it last for 12 months at a time (and this year, they both had $50 left over that I allowed them to spend on fun stuff), they take better care of their clothes, and they are also so grateful when they get clothes as gifts!
So, your daughter is a bit young for all of this, but this is something to consider for her future. But, I can say that $500 is more than enough to last a whole year--more than just back to school.

Well I'm almost 12 and my parents spend 100 to 200 dollars on clothes. But your daughter is young and with her age group they don't have all the expensive fashions. So I would worry about finding cute clothes that fit her and follow her dress code. I like Bealls Old Navy JC Penney's Sears Dillard's, those are good places to find clothes for younger girls. My cousin who is 7 also likes Target! Well good luck!

Target is the best place for back to school clothes I think. Since your child is 6 s/he should get a new set of clothes every year as s/he is growing, mine is 16 and not growing so I'm going to get her just 2 pair of new jeans, and underware, socks, etc because those items wear out and get lost quickly she really has enough from last year, I'm just going to add to it a little bit.
I think you could spend a little under $100.00 to get some clothes, and shoes, they have pretty good sales, but don't go overboard because kids grow so fast.

K Mart. I love K Mart and Wal Mart. I spend money on my son throughout the year, since hes usually between sizes at the beginning of the year. Its also cheaper that way, lol.
Another good resource is goodwill. They sometimes have clothes that would normally be expensive, and in good condition, for really cheap. I rarely spend more than 150 dollars a year on my sons clothes.
Also try http://www.craigslist.com
Oh and also look up Platos closet, for yourself. Its consignment, and they usually have up to date styles, too. Theyre pretty inexpensive, also, and will come in handy when your daughter is about 6 years older than she is now.
Enjoy the school year!!! =)

My daughter wears uniforms. I absolutely love it. I get her 2-3 outfits and then wait until the store clearance the clothes after school has started and buy several more and next years sizes. I only spent about $200. on her when things are 70% off.
