That was a tremendous fight indeed and I'm glad I saw it. A lot of boxing oldtimers will tell you that the Tony Zale vs Rocky Graziano 2nd fight on 7-16-1947 was the greatest. Rocky was knocked down by Zale in the 3rd round and taking a battering from Zale with one eye almost completely closed came back in the 6th round and threw a 30 punch barrage and TKOed Zale for the Middleweight championship! Great question!

I have to go with Hearns vs. Leonard I. Two young, but already great fighters. One with thunder, the other with lightning and speed. No two boxers were bigger draw than those two at the time. The fights were still 15 rounds, Hearns was winning the fight. Dundee starts yelling, "You're blowing it kid. You're blowing it." Leonard comes out and practically knocks the guy through the ropes; and wins. You had action. you had suspense,. you had drama. you had two guys who hated eachother. you had the makings of a life long bitter rivalry. What else can boxing ask for?

There have been alot of great fights - for me it was Jeff Harding and Dennis Andries for the WC Light Heavyweight title in their first of three fights. Dennis Andries won the first nine rounds and landed every punch that he threw however Jeff Harding gave one of the best performances maybe ever and came back to win by knockout in the 12th and final round to become the new champion of the world. Later that night during a victory dinner, the waiter serving a very bruised and battered Jeff Harding asked what happened to him and he told the waiter that he just won the title and after a few moments the waiter did say "Man, I wonder what the other guy looks like!!" Apparently a true story!

I would say that the greatest bout was between Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini and Aruro Frias for the Lightweight Championship. Frias the champion hurt Manicini with some violent blows in the first round. This upset Mancini and he pummeled Frias knocking him out in the last minute of the first round. Before this fight occured some gunmen came to Mancinis hotel, luckily he was not there. He trained under police supervision for the remainder of the time before the fight. It is considered by some to be the bloodiest first round in boxing.
P.S. Mancini later killed an openent in the 14th round of a fight, this caused the boxing association to shorten fights from 15 to 12 rounds.

I can't believe more people aren't saying Corrales vs Castillo I. Didn't anyone see that fight? I'm voting for that because it had everything: 2 skilled fighters, brilliant inside fighting (which is rare these days), brutal exchanges, physical damage on both fighters, a ton of heart, and perhaps one of the most dramatic endings to a fight that I've ever seen. I remember sitting back on my couch after it was over and realizing that I was exhausted just from watching it. I've been a hard core fan for nearly 20 years, and that one is my favorite.

Hagler outclassed him by a mile. Best fight ever would be Ali v. Frazier III. Showed Ali's skills and Fraier's heart. Unbelievable.

Chavez Vs. Taylor 1....Taylor throughing the most punches while Chavez throughing the most devasting ones....for 12 rounds, makes you wish that the boxing commission bring back 15 rounds in a championship match...
