Clean a drip coffee machine by pouring a solution of equal parts water and vinegar into the reservoir and run it through the brew cycle. Rinse by running water through the cycle.
Descale your kettle by boiling a solution of one part vinegar, two parts water in it. Rinse thoroughly. To descale your iron, pour the same solution into the iron, let stand for 30 minutes, then rinse.

Run it with a 50:50 mixture of white vinegar and water. Then run it again with just water. Depending on the amount of scaling, this should do the trick. Regular maintenance of this process should be done to prevent scaling every 60 times your machine is used.

I think the girls are kidding about the vinegar trick. I just tried it and the water didn't look very dirty to me.

Edit: It worked after the fourth cycle. There were some living organisms in there that took a long time to drown. They looked like a colony of cockroaches when they finally flushed out.
