Some tailgaters are doing it on purpose and will continue no matter what you do. Therefore you have to focus on safety. Make sure you back off the vehicle you are following and leave enough distance that if they stop suddenly you will not collide into them...and your tailgater friend does not push you into them should he plow into you. Maintain this safe distance and totally ignore him. If he passes you (which is what you want him to do) or pull up next to you...still totally ignore him. Do not be tempted to even give him a glance. Concentrate on your driving. Sooner or later he'll move on . There is not much fun if one is acting stupid and not being noticed.

Make sure you get his driving license though and be ready to dial 911 if he began to show violent aggression.

I lost my license for a long time, but I had to work so I learned to not be seen and drive the limit and only the limit (didn't like jail). Do you know how it was driving the limit in California for more than seven years, "tail gaiters" good and sobs? hundreds weekly. To make this short ignore the punks. flip your mirror to night and take care of whats in front of you. Its dam funny to be in the passengers seat and watch the driver slam into a car at a stop light while hes bitching and watching a tailgater is his mirror.

do not slam your brakes. in case you do this and there is an coincidence, you'd be accused. you also should be arrested if it leads to a fatality. once you've different lanes the position the tailgater can go, then your purpose is to encourage them to go there. even as you could opt to do unspeakable issues to the driving force who's tailing you, your first order of business enterprise is to relax down. Take a deep breath. when you're executed with the respiration workout, be conscious your modern-day p.c.. you at present opt to stress extremely slower than that. Do it without urgent your brakes and steadily decelerate. even as they make their lane substitute to pass you, p.c. up back on your unique p.c.. a mild tap on the gasoline ought to do it. the clarification behind it is so that they don't by coincidence hit the nook of your rear bumper even as attempting to pass you so heavily. they gained't anticipate you to p.c. up so that you're going to create a valuable rear area hollow. some tailgaters at this element will attempt to punish you or scare you with the help of driving on the threshold of the fringe of your motor vehicle even as they pass you. assume this and stay on the threshold of the different fringe of the lane remote from the tailgater without going into yet another lane or off the line. If there are stumbling blocks on the line or yet another motor vehicle in the different lane you mustn't be in a position to do this. it is the most suitable action taken in the maneuver. proper even as the tailgater is totally in his passing lane and is abreast of you, tap your brake and decelerate a touch. The tailgater gained't anticipate this second flow and could pass you extra right now than they imagine. once the tailgater has handed you, you could now look on the back of their head. make an remark of any valuable homes or headwear in case they are taken with an coincidence extra up the line. you should use those information to furnish to the police................

i as a passenger take down the license number and let them see that i am or did and write that they are tail gating in case they hit and run they won't get away with it at least. it seems to scare most of them off. At night you can position mirrors to be too bright for them,or wear a jewel or fake jewel that will reflect back at them, but not too much

happens to me all the time. i might get flipped off or honked at but i really don't care. i usually tap the brake. not enough to slow the car. just enough to let the tailgater know i'm a jerk. if he/she doesn't back off i keep tapping. very slowly i decrease speed. i'm not trying to get hit either. even if he continues to tailgate i usually get him/her pissed off enough to see it in the face. the honking and flipping off doesn't bother me at all. i just drive away smugly knowing i ruined someone's day when he/she was the one trying to be a jerk.
i'm always in the right lane, i follow all traffic rules, and i drive the speed limit. i don't care who i'm pissing off cuz i'm not getting a ticket. if someone wants to raise blood pressure over a car ride, i'm happy to oblige.
once at a red light in the right hand lane, a loser behind me honked when he didn't think i was moving fast enough. so i put my car in park and waited. he was so pissed i could see how red his face was from my car. when the light changed i proceeded as normal. what did he accomplish?

flip your headlights on (they will think you are braking for a second), and then let yourself slow down without using the brakes, it will be enough to make him slow down as well - and the lights give enough scare that he will have applied his brakes a bit so you will have a space in which to slow down. then let him go around you.
you are not in the innermost (left in USA) lane are you? that is for faster drivers, so you are at fault if you are. get out of it, as it is supposed to be a passing lane, and is not for steady driving anyway.

Just let go of the gas and let your car slowly coast until the driver behind loses patience. This is the most unoffensive yet effective way to solve the problem.
