I couldn't install my netgear wireless pci card to my Window XP. It keeps saying the 'name' of my pci card is already used. Indeed, when I open 'regedit' and realize there is already an entry in my Window's registry. When trying to delete it, it refuses to be deleted.
what should I do now? I bet the installer of my wireless card has the same problem and that's why it keeps telling me the name is still in use. Is there another way to delete the registry hive? It's not a permission issue. I have no problem of deleting other entries.

Boot into safe mode and delete it from there.

Playing in the registry is tricky business and you really should make sure you have created a restore point or have a good backup of your critical data.

Look at your device manager and see if the card is listed, if it is try deleting it from the device manager. (you may or may not need to reboot) then try deleting it from the registry. I would also try drilling down into the registry hive and deleting my way up. One other thing is to search the registry for “netgear” and delete all keys associated with netgear.
