Can you say Brrroooom , Brrrooom ? like the sound of a car going, this is the sound little kids make when they play with their toy cars. Practice it, and do it with emotion like you are really playing with little kids. If you can do this, then you are already rolling your r's, just remember it when you speak spanish.

Hope this helps.

It's really not a genetic thing. When we're babies, we make all kinds of sounds with our mouths and we just forget how to do them later as we don't need them in the language we grow up speaking.

Don't get discouraged, because you actually CAN learn how to do it... In fact, I used to not be able to do it, but now I can. I asked my Spanish instructor the same question. She told me to practice saying words with "rr" at every opportunity you get. Driving, standing in line at the bank, at home watching a movie, whenever you have a free moment, just practice. Say "perro" with a regular r, but hold it longer (and by regular r, I mean Spanish r, where your tongue actually sort of touches the top of your mouth behind the teeth). When I started doing that, I could roll my r's in less than a week. Another thing that helps is find some Spanish music you like, especially music in which the singers do the their rr's in a very clear, pronounced way, and sing along. Look up Ska-P, they're kind of a ska/punk/ish band from Spain, and singing along with their songs helped me a lot because they make their rr's very clear.

Buena suerte, and don't give up, because I'm living proof that it can be done!

Do not ever gargle to produce the spanish "R", that will actually help you pronounce the French "R" which is more difficult.

Just touch the tip of your toungue on the roof of your mouth behind the teeth (do not touch the teeth themselves).

Now try saying r with lot of air pushing in.

Belive me, I understand. When I was young I had trouble with all R's and still do sometimes. I have grown up in a Mexican-American community so I heard it so often it stuck. i think it is genetic, but im not sure because i learned how to do it in time. my advice to you, keep trying and if you don't get it, don't worry because they will still know what you mean.

yep... just keep practicing it.. ask a parent or friend if they can..

if they can.. just watch them .. heh
You put the tip of your tongue on the roof of ur mouth behind ur upper teeth.. while blowing air out of ur mouth... ur tonge should vibrate.. if not.. push ur tongue a lil harder on ur gums..

good luck !

PS ..
DONT GARGLE .. rolling ur tongue .. and gargling is not the same thing .. lol

it took me 1 week to learn to do the nasal sounds while learning portuguese!

It's not a genetic thing. Basically every Spanish speaker can do it.

lightly place the tip of your tongue to the roof of your mouth and gently vibrate it.
or, try to imitate a growling dog sound.
Nonetheless, don't go crazy if you can't do it, you'll still be understood.
