I see people who always appear happy and wonder how they do it.
I think i have a bad habbit that i get from my mother of always complaning and bitching. I do not know how to get over it and want to realy bad. I seem to always focus on the negative in anything including my self. i.e. My height, my smile, my weight ect.
I find i am suicidal about 50% of the time and i realy want to get over it. i am on antidepressants and they have not made things better. I tried counceling and they told me "well no one is happy all the time", That dosnt help me!!!
Any suggestions are appriciated. Thanks :D
I just want to be happy.

Why don't you try find some friends that fits your interests,If you are happy of being like that, you don't have to pretend,it will just adds burden to you!Being happy is not a sign of smiling or laughing,it does not show expressions in your face but the contentment of your heart and having a peace of mind! If you are happy being alone and making fun with netsurfing or watching tv or reading magazines and bible,go for it! If you feel like doing something harmless try to do as long as you relieve your bitterness!List down all the things that you want to do and the things that you like to have! And select something that makes you busy as your hobby,it might be a sports or a business!Be busy and you will find out it will make you satisfied person and complete! Goodluck!

Well, to answer your question on always "appearing" happy...just smile a lot and pretend to be in a good mood when you're around people. If you practice it enough, you'll become a pro.
Now, always BEing happy...that's a qood question. I CAN tell you that in order to fill the void in your life, heart, and soul, you need Jesus. But I guarantee you still won't always be "happy". Although I WILL promise you you'll see life, death, struggles, trials, issues, beauty, etc. in a different light, especially since you won't be going through the tough times by your self anymore. From then on, you'll have the Holy Spirit in you, and God by your side. I'm talking a complete transformation. lol...your complaining and bitching may not end completely, but the reasons for them will.
Continuously joyful, yes. Content with material things? yes. Unconditional love? yes. But always being "happy"? Sorry...

But if you decide against Jesus, then try the smiling thing.

heya!!
well i have a really simple tip for you.... Keep smiling!!......
It might seem a little wacko at first but you'll get used to it..... and whenever you're feeling negative about yourself and others remember that someone somewhere is goin through something much more worse than you...... ( a little trick is to think of other people around you who aren't as lucky as you - someone might be goin through a breakup, someone might have a perpetual odour problem, someone might be really obnoxious - whatever! Jst concentrate on their negative points), it might sound a little sadist but when you look carefully into other people's lives you might realise that they aren't as Happy as they seem to be and perhaps, maybe, you're better off then them!! That is definately a morale booster - what say?

And lastly when other worries begin to creep up on you remember that it takes 42 muscles to frown but only 4 to raise a finger:) So chill out man........ things aren't always as bad as they seem to be..... Remember Murphy's Law - Tommorow could be worse!!

All the best!!

There are times when I just sit down and reflex on happy thoughts. During that time I smile to myself. So l thing in order for you to appear happy, you have to be smiling from the inside in order for it to reflect on the outside an in order for that to happy you must be in a lovely place in your mind. In other words, think good thoughts

they're right, it's abnormal to even APPEAR to be happy all the time. try to look on the bright side, let yourself smile, enjoy the small things of life. get delight from seeing a caterpillar on the sidewalk, or the first bite of your favorite dessert. focus on the smaller joys of life. that always helps me in my depression

First of all, if your medicine isn't working then it will be nearly impossible to be happy or to think positively. You need to cut yourself some slack. When you feel negative, remind yourself that this is not who you really are. When you get on a medicine that works for you, then you will be able to make progress on the areas that you want to work on. Therapy can be good for you to help you monitor your symptoms and to not feel like you are alone in your struggle. It is difficult to make improvements if you do not have enough seratonin in your brain.

If the doctor who prescribed your medicine was not a psychiatrist, he/she may not be up to date on the latest medicines. The reasons that you need a psych are to be properly diagnosed and to get personalized treatment based on years of experience with patients who have depression. My sister was treated for depression for a long time and then they figured out she was bi-polar. She did not display the manic side very often. No medicine worked for her until she got the medicine for bi-polar.

If you have a psych, then keep calling them and letting them know that you meds are not working. Go in for a visit if they require it. Improvements can be made such as increased dose, same med but time release formula, 2nd medicine added to the first or new replacement medicine. Make sure you take your medicine when you are supposed to otherwise you may not get the full benefits. If you don't get help from your psych (or his nurse) then you may need to find another psych. Ask for recommendations.

Try to eat as healthy as possible, get a good nights sleep and exercise. If you are not able to even to do these things don' beat yourself up.

Other things to do to cheer yourself up. Watch funny movies, go to hallmark store and read funny cards. Play with pets and watch little kids play. Go to flowershop or garden center and look at the flowers. Imagine a garden you would like to design or other project. Do a good deed when possible.

Don't give up. You are worth the extra work that is required to beat depression.

At work or elsewhere when you need to look happy, then look people in the eye and smile. Smile even if you don't feel like it. Complaining can be a habit so you have to practice to break it. Before going to work or elsewhere remind youself to not say anything if it isn't nice or other phrase in your head. If you are really angry then go to the bathroom and try to calm down first. Wait a day before chewing anyone out.

Best of luck to you.

Happiness and contentment is within. Make your number one and two excuses as the reason to change your life. Stop making reasons for your depressions, instead be just who you are...If your a *****...then be a *****...just be happy being one. Smile :-))
