It depends on the airline you fly on. I usually fly Continental and they give meals to everyone on long flights. You can always call the airline and ask them if there will be anything provided on the flight, that way you can pack some snacks if you need to.

Can't give out peanuts due to the fact that someone on the plane may have a peanut allergy. Pretzels, most likely.
My husband and I got bumped up to first class (luck of the draw) and got some quite tasty cookie/biscuit things. Oh, the leg room. But I digress...
We flew from Chicago to Maui, non-stop...about 8 hours or so...no meal. I was dying. We brought food onboard from Billy Goat Tavern in the airport and I had some snacks to keep me satiated.
The meals in 1st Class do look a lot better. When I flew to France, they looked like they were living it up. And they had real utensils, not plastic ones that broke when I was trying to cut my chicken.

I'm assuming that ur talking about US? If ur going from west coast to east coast US, i doubt any airlines will give meals to non-1st class passengers... they have snacks that u have to pay for which stinks... americans.........
but if ur going on international flights, i know they will give u FREE meals, even in coach and economy class... trust me... no ones ever riden on and flown a plane more than me

I work for an airline. Instead of increasing ticket prices due to high fuel prices they are looking for other measures. The reduction of passenger convince items is just one of the ways to save money. I don't agree with the company's focus, I think it's going to loose customers in the long run.

You'll get a mini snack and a cup of luke warm soda...if you are lucky. Some airlines offer "snack packs" for sale for like $8, but they are total junk. Buy something ahead of time and take it on the plane with you.

depends on airline, but most are cutting back on free inflight meals, many still provide some sort of box meal for about $5 buts its nothing special while almost all airlines still serve drinks and peanuts or chips.
