I have a 80 lb. Chow-Sheppard mix, If she sets a certain way on our hardwood floor, she makes a LOUD fart. She will look around to see if anyone is watching. If we are, she puts her head down and walks away like she has just been scolded for being bad.
She is my first dog, I was 32 when I got her as a pup. I had no idea that it was bad to feed her from the table. I would even give her chunks of steak on a fork (seperate fork), which she would take very gently.
I was spoiling her (still do) and had no idea how bad it was for her to eat table scraps. The Vet filled me in on this practice real quick. The problem was that she had gotten used to it. She didn't jump up and beg or anything. It was the "Puppy Dog" look that she gave me.
I still wanted to feed her and make her happy but didn't want to harm her. I got some doggie treats to keep on the table (covered and non-stinky). Now I can still feed her from the table and not hurt her. She is happy and so am I.

On this one, I have to disagree with the majority here. I know my dogs can be embarrassed. You should see their faces when they trip and fall or fall off the couch. (One of my males is *very* clumsy...) It doesn't take a degree in psychology to understand the look of total humiliation when we giggle at them. I never underestimate the intelligence of animals (of any kind). And I never underestimate their range of emotions. They're mammals and so are we. I don't see why their chemical make-up would be any different than ours in that respect. Emotions are there to control certain behaviors, and they need the same controls that we do.
Only opinions can be offered on this subject, but that's mine, and I'm sticking to it!

Embarrassed? No. Remember, they're not humans and they're roughly equivalent mentally to a 2-year old. However, dogs are fantastically good at reading body language, facial expressions, tone of voice, etc. In all likelihood, she's responding to what you are doing and not to what she did.
I like your table-treating technique, particularly if it works for you. However, this will not stop begging and, in fact, will make it worse. The only solution is to not reward the dog in any fashion (w/food, obviously, but also with attention, good or bad). - g^2
P.S. I do believe that dogs feel quite a range of emotions, but also that they live in the moment, so context-sensitive emotions are unlikely. And, yes, I feed my dogs when I'm eating, but only when they are polite about it.

On the farting deal. It is probably the way you all have reacted to her.
Or she didn't like the way it felt.
Many people just over feed their dogs. I hope you are not one of them.
This doggie treats can be bad too. You also need to count those treats as part of her daily measured food portion for the day. You can save part of her food for table feeding or all of it.
Why not feed her, her food if she is really needs to eat. If not she can just watch you.
You could change your way of seeing her. She can be adoring you and just wanting you to give her a petting. Stop thinking everytime a dog looks at you they want food. Dogs look at people [masters/Alpha] what ever you want to call it. They have a puppydog look all the time. Stop thinking it means feed me. Offer her a dill pickle slice or her dog food peices. hopefully she will not want that and just go lay down.
Don't make another FAT, FAT Dog.

I KNOW dogs can be embarassed!! If we laugh too loud or too long around my chihuahua, she will RUN off......one time, she was scooting on the carpet and my BF and I were cracking up over it---she bolted! ......and when she went downstairs and my BF's mom tried to comfort her---she bit her!!!! Isn't that funny?
About the begging thing--my dogs beg always, if it really bothered me i'm sure i would find a way to correct it. Watch the "dog whisperer" with Caesar.....he might be able to help.

You should set the rules for your dog . Or Estrablish a routine for doggie. I saw some lessons online that teach you to training your dog by yourself .

Not embarrassed.
Plus, you still shouldn't feed her from the table whether it be table scraps or dog treats.

People are always telling me that my dog looks embarrased. It's probably just his personality. He is shy and submissive. So they have this cute little look about them sometimes. If it really embarrased her she wouldn't do it anymore. Funny story though.
