I walked into the pet store and noticed that when I bought my dog a 20 pound bag of food, an bag of cat food same weight was 2x's cheaper.

You'd have to compare the quality of the ingredients. In my experience, cat food is sold in smaller quantities and is MORE expensive.

Probably a larger percentage of corn and filler in the cat food than in the dog food. A dog's stomache is more sensitve than a cat's also so they eat as much grain and corn as cats can. The dog's foot probably has a larger portion of meat product in it. Meat being much more expensive than grain and corn drives up the price.
