my boy was 1 on the 10th
we had a little perty and went to a indoor soft play area.
He loved playing in the ball pits following other kids around while im crawling about chasing him.
if you have older siblings it keeps them happy too.
make sure you go early though then you have time to bribe them away with food or something because they never want to leave lol

I'm a party-thrower...so when I have a party I go all out. I think the coolest thing that I"ve ever done for any of my kids' parties were balloon arches. I filled somewhere between 150-200 baloons with helium. Then I took peices of twine(you could use any type of string or ribbon) and tied it around the knot of each baloon. I then wrapped up blocks to look like gifts and tied the end of the strings to the blocks. (When the blocks are spread apart the baloons with naturally float into an arch shape.)
I had two rows of about 3 long tables sitting parellel to each other,.(===) I made three arches(about 50 baloons each depending on how high you want them to float)
Each set of tables(parallel to one another) had an arch floating from it's middle across the isle to the opposite table.
The kids loved running back and forth underneath the balloons. It's cheap, easy and the kids love it! It also makes for some really awesome pictures. It sounds complicated, but it's not! If you want I will email you a picture so you can get a better idea of what I'm talking about.

Doesn't really matter where you have it at, but take lots and lots of pictures!! You will definitely want to remember the 1st birthday!! We just rented out a local building here where people have parties at. We didn't want to go to any restaurants or party places because it is a little distracting and noisy for a baby's 1st b-day party (at least it seemed to me). Then we invited friends and family (some who have kids as well) and we had cake, ice cream, pop, and chips. We had a couple little cheap games - nothing fancy - like pin the tail on the donkey and a ring toss with a couple dollar store prices. The theme was Bear in the Big Blue House because my daughter liked it at the time really well. Pick a theme you think your child will enjoy. If they like Blue's Clues, then that; if they like Winnie The Pooh, then that. Doesn't have to be extravagant and expensive. We had a cake and a small round cake with Happy Birthday and my daughter's name on it with her #1 candle on it and she got to sit her high chair and dig into the cake with both hands!!! She enjoyed that! Then we opened presents. It was a great time for the family to get together and see everyone. But remember video camera and/or lots and lots of pictures!!!

With both of mine, I took them to the party supply store and laid several of the decorated plates that were appropriate to a child's theme party on the floor in the aisle adn I encouraged them to "go get one." It made me feel like they got to choose. I then used that theme to do the party around. The first one picked clowns (although she is deathly afraid of them now) and the second one picked a Teddy Beddy Bear. In our family it's tradition for the entire extended family to come to the first birthday of the children, so it was our huge family and some close friends who also had small children. It was a coverdish. Be sure to have someone other than the baby's parents responsible for taking photos and shooting video, or it might not get done in all the confusion of such a big day.

My son will be 5 on the 27th, for his first birthday we had 2 of his little friends, from playgroup, over. I made a simple cake with blue icing and a paper sail boat on it and fish cookies around the side. Goldfish crackers for snacking. The little ones splashed in the pool and played with gifts. The party was about 1 hour long and we gave each of the kids a cup with a straw and a beach ball. Simple, easy and fun.

Nothing, it doesn't really matter. At 1 yr old it is something more for the parents to do for themselves, so they can show off the baby. Just have a small get together with family and friends...
It's not like the baby's going to know or care..

basically birthdays are like excuses to express our love to those whom birthdayus we prepare. most important thing on 20th your son's birthday is that you express your love to your son, you're his mother. tell him how important he is for his mom. and you will always be with your son him no matter how everybody thinks of him. but right now your son can't understand all big stuff so give him a mother's love as much as you can.

Kids love moving objects and RED objects,
Best Idea would be a BIG RED BALL or some thing that make them look at and move or crawl.
Soft toys are good too. You can try giving beautiful clothes aswell.

We went to Mcdonalds and had a party for our daughter on her first birthday. It is fairly cheap, and they will supply the cake and ice cream if you want them to. My daughter enjoyed it.
