Smoking damages the heart -- it's probably got a lot to do with why you had heart disease in the first place.

Respect your donor and his/her family, and the incredible second chance at life you got, by doing your best to quit smoking. Do WHATEVER IT TAKES -- you don't want to blow this last chance you've been given. Seek help from professionals, tell your transplant social worker you want to quit.

i would say you have a very strong addiction to nicotine.

they are saying you are dumb because smoking increases your odds of having a heart attack. it contributes to heart disease. I doubt that you enjoyed the transplant experience.

You are already on your second heart. If you don't try to take care of it, the doctors probably won't give you a third.

because smoking reduces the amount of oxygen in the blood and makes the body work harder for what oxygen it DOES GET, which in turn puts more stress on your lungs AND your heart. the heart's job is to pump oxygen into the blood and move that blood around....
and if there's less oxygen to work with....
