Surely you've heard "Thou shalt not kill" and "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife." Here's another excerpt from the Bible that contradicts them.

(Deuteronomy 21:10-14) "When you go out to war against your enemies and the Lord, your God, delivers them into your hand, so that you take captives, if you see a comely woman among the captives and become so enamored of her that you wish to have her as wife, you may take her home to your house. But before she may live there, she must shave her head and pair her nails and lay aside her captive's garb. After she has mourned her father and mother for a full month, you may have relations with her, and you shall be her husband and she shall be your wife. However, if later on you lose your liking for her, you shall give her her freedom, if she wishes it; but you shall not sell her or enslave her, since she was married to you under compulsion."

It is acceptable to God for you to kill the parents of a girl you desire and then force her to marry you after a month of mourning.

... and people say the Bible has no contradictions ... I guess they just don't read it.

There are NO CONTRIDICTIONS in the bible what so ever. One must have the guidance of the Holy Spirit to understand the TRUTH of the HOLY WORD OF GOD. The Old and New Testaments go hand in hand.

I’ve had other people tell me that, but no one has ever been able to show me what is actually a contradiction. And in my own personal reading of the Bible I’ve never seen one. Could you give me an example? What I have found is that many persons simply never found answers to questions that the Bible made them think about.

Scifiguy, this comes up a lot... God directed ancient Israel to use warfare to take possession of the land that he himself designated as their inheritance and to execute people whose depraved practices and defiance of the true God caused Jehovah to view them as being no longer fit to live. (Deut. 7:1, 2, 5; 9:5; Lev. 18:24, 25) Nevertheless, mercy was shown to Rahab and to the Gibeonites because they demonstrated faith in Jehovah. (Josh. 2:9-13; 9:24-27) In the Law covenant God laid down rules for warfare that he would approve, stipulating exemptions and the manner in which this warfare was to be carried out. Such were truly holy wars of Jehovah. That is not true of the carnal warfare of any nation today.

Eye for an eye is Civil Law... meaning for the good of society (the majority), if someone hurts another, the Law and the Judge will demand retribution

Turn the other cheek is a Personal Issue... meaning there is a Hgher Law that ALWAYS supercedes Civil Law... the Law of love...

And there is not ONE word written in the Bible that says God is spiteful. And he IS jealous... over ANYTHING that would detract from YOUR well being.... He has YOUR welfare in mind....

And going out to war?? God has given us the PRIVILEGE of defending our families and loved ones.... And it is NOT coveting your neighbor's wife to take her into your home and marry her after horrific warfare has widowed her... It was considered a KINDNESS... kind of like what was portrayed in The Last Samurai...

The Bible does not contradict, but it is our understanding of the Bible that contradicts. Bible was written for man, being God inspired and men of God being led by the Spirit of God. As man advanced through the ages, we twisted the Word of God to suit our needs and our likes, most of the time we fail to see the simple truth that God wants us to follow in our life. In the Old Testament and on account of man's sin and hardness of heart, the Lord send His Word to His people through his servants to deal with the people, which has been recorded time to time. The perfection of God's redemption plan was through Jesus Christ, in a bid to save humanity from destruction and condemnation in sin. I do not think that the teachings of Jesus Christ is hard or heavy, but simple, it is just that we cannot leave the pleasures of our flesh that we contradict with His Word and with the Spirit of God. Heaven and earth will pass away but the Word of God will not pass away.
Many people in history, whether musicians, actors, military personnel from around the world swore that the Bible would disappear into oblivion and that Jesus Christ would be just some name in history, well those people have died, but the name of Jesus and the Bible still rings strong in the hearts, minds and spirits of people. It is living, alive and powerful.

It was written by different people, at different times, with different adjendas. On top of this it was recompiled by a wholely sepereate group of people who decided on what to keep and what to throw out. add into the mix that it has been translated and retranslated to the point at which the original meaning has been totally lost.

What you have left is lies told thousands of years ago by men who didnt have the luxury of advanced knowledge as we do today.

It's complete BS and it simply astounds me that people today still take it at face value and much worse... believe it to be ABSOLUTE TRUTH!

Jesus/God = Santa for grown ups.

if youre a good little boy Jesus will come down and give you a reward... Bullox!

Gee, you paint with a rather broad brush. You gave no examples of how the Bible contradicts itself, so even if we were to address common misperceptions, you could come back with the idea that we don't know what we're talking about. (Which is likely what you're looking for anyway, instead of being an honest seeker.)

Sigh.

Typical. There are no contradictions. The book is amazing if you know what you're doing with it which takes a bit of study. The Holy Bible that is. Don't knock it till you've tried it.

My favorite contradiction from the Bible are the two verses:

"an eye for an eye" - which means to get revenge

"turn the other cheek" - which means to forgive

Also, it says that God is a jealous and spiteful God and since, according to the Bible, we're created in his image why is it a sin for us to be jealous and spiteful too? I don't get it....

According to a late night "Bible Code Software" infomercial, all the contradictions, scientific and math errors are there for a very special reason and that reason is "So you can find Jesus' name in a numarical manner".
