My husband just joined the army at the begining of the Summer. He is away at basic training right now, and I was hoping if there were any army wives out there who had some feedback on places they've lived. We have two young children, ages 2, and 3, so preferable answers that have lived in the family housing on base.

Honestly, all the bases are going to have downfalls and all are going to have something good about them. We Army wives have a saying that is so true. It's "home is where the Army sends us". No matter where you get stationed, just try to make the best of it. Oh and welcome to the married to the Army lifestyle!

If he just joined the Army he is not going to get the best housing there is but be gratefull if you get to live on post. The BAH your husband will be getting( thats the money to pay for housing) probably wont be enough for a decent place off post. At least on post you wont have to pay for electricity, water or gas. Its very secure and the schools are always better on post. Where ever the Army send you try to make the best of it . its not as bad as some people might say. good luck to you and your family.

Oh yeah the montery language school is right on the beach & SO nice. Not much advice on Army bases. Stay away from DC is all I can tell you. Make the best of whatever you get. There's pros & cons of military life, just don't let the frustrating stuff get you down. Good Luck!!

Hate to tell you this, but your husband will be stationed where the Army needs him. You will, most likely, have little or no say in his assignments. The Army does allow soldiers to request assignments to certain Bases or areas, but no guarantees are made. Depending on what his MOS is, he might get assigned to the base where he took his MOS training.

Presidio of Monterey in California. I know that I'm USAF (not army) but every army person that I've talked to has aid this is the best place to get stationed. Although the only people that get stationed here are military peoples learning a foriegn language.

Most army post these days are pretty much set up the same. As soon as he gets his orders ya'all need to contact housing to get on the housing waiting list. depending on where you end up depends on how long you will have to wait. Also you can get online and find apt for rent with the military clause right outside post.

It's not like you get a choice, sweety. Be happy if you get to live on post period. Half the time its so overcrowded the enlisted men have to live off post for at least a year and generally its nothing but ghetto 15 miles from the post where you'll live. And be very happy if you get to live with your husband. As far as which is nicest. They are all the same so on the inside, same crowded commisaries, same nasty burger kings, same looking housing, same everything.

After basic it is off to his army school. Being new to the army he will probably do an overseas tour first. If it's Korea he won't be allowed to bring family at his rank. You and the kids better get used to being by yourself for a while. Although, this is not always the case. Goodluck!
