i really wanted to talk to them...is talking to a random monk rude? i mean, i read koans where people talk to monks all the time...they seem nice.

a monk is someone who is practising dharma in a monastic situation. Whether or not they are special or ordinary can vary immensely.

personally, i don't see anything wrong with monks checking out some malls or any tourist spots. i would think they are novice monks who are delighted when they travelled to a new country.

if you wish to speak to him, sure, why not? it's not rude. however, some tibetan monks may not understand english.

i've seen monks in shopping malls. i've seen some buddhist monks/ masters being invited to dine in vegetarian restaurants too. it's just natural for me, so i do nothing.

I'd ask them what time it was. And when they answered with some random time, I'd say "Wrong! It's Hammer time!" Then I would run down the hall like a rabid monkey furiously stalking my love banana, and I wouldn't care if my mom saw the whole thing.

I wouldn't ask him anything....I'd just say hello. Monks, like priests, rabbi's, pastors etc are human beings....they are not unapproachable or untouchable.

i would ask one of them for the Dali llama,s address or phone number,i have a few questions for him,plus to send my respect,he has one of the greatest minds of all time.
