The parade itself is on Thanksgiving Day. Manhattan's a pretty big place, so it's hard to know what's close to where you'll be living.
This is when all the stores do their Christmas windows. The ones at Lord and Taylor are famous. That's at about 5th Ave. and 38th Street, I think. Just looking at 5th Avenue in general is pretty cool at that time of year.
The Christmas Show will be going on at Radio City--if you take an off-peak performance, the tickets are reasonable and the show is amazing! And, of course, that's where the Rockefeller Center tree is, but that's not lit until several days after Thanksgiving, usually. The New York Botanical Garden does a special garden with model trains running through it. South Street Seaport also has holiday activities, including a "human Christmas Tree" made up of carollers. I don't know if that starts at Thanksgiving, though.

I would advice you to leave the city during any long weekend especially Thanksgiving. The city will quickly become over populated with tourists.

My first year in New York I thought I would take part in the great American tradition but then one morning, I left my apartment and saw the crews setting up the bleachers for people to watch the parade from. I realized that millions of people would be in front of my apartment and the crowds that weekend were going to be crazy. So I went back inside, went online and booked the first flight out I could find.

Shopping will be crazy, the city will be full of tourists, and to be quite honest, it's nothing to spectacular. People who live in Manhattan aren't from Manhattan and we all leave anytime a big event takes place because it brings tons of people to the city. Everyone in the streets during Thanksgiving will be tourists getting a glimpse of a gigantic inflated Woody Wood Pecker being dragged down the streets.

My advice is to get out of the city unless you want to be fighting tourists on the subway, at restaurants, on the streets, and for cabs.

i ought to park it someplace in New Jersey and take the course practice to ny. That way you received't ought to force into the city. As for the airplane cost ticket, look at Jet Blue. they have direct flights from Orlando, Jacksonville and ft Lauderdale to JFK for approximately one hundred funds if bought about 2 weeks in develop (they're more low-priced in case you fly on Tuesday or Thursday.)
